DPF Removal / Delete
Discussion
Hi All,
I have a 2006 Audi A4 with the 170bhp 2.0Tdi engine - and as is common with this model the DPF light has come on.
Despite following the regeneration procedure the light refuses to go out and I now have a flashing glow plug light and the car is in limp mode.
From what I have read this is probably going to be a costly repair with Audi (new DPF).. I'm not really interested in paying Audi to fix what I consider to be an unnecessary piece of legislation bypassing nonsense which does nothing for me but restrict the engine.
So I have been looking at DPF bypass / Delete options...
I know miltek / custom code offer a complete kit (bypass pipe and remap to stop the engine looking for a DPF) however it's expensive and I think I would rather find a local mapper to mod the ECU and simply have the contents of the DPF removed by cutting it open, gutting it then welding up again.
Does anyone have any experience with DPF removal and does anyone know a capable ECU guy in my area (Frome, Somerset).
Thanks,
Adam.

Have you tried an italian tune up?
That's along the right lines from my experience of particulate filters.Apparently lots of people end up taking them back to the dealers when getting similar problems with Saabs. From what I've heard, they collect the particulates at burn them off at slightly higher than normal rpm on longer journeys, so if you only make short journeys they can build up and the light comes on. You just need to get out there and cruise along the mototrway for a while.
Had a search and found the following document:

Apparently, the above post rings true, although if the light has already come on it may be too late. If you can allow it to get rid of the particulates by taking a long journey now before the light has been on for too long you should be ok.

Been there done that... London and back (120miles each way) @ 2.5k RPM on cruise control (as told by the Audi main dealer)... have also tried ragging it, light still refuses to go out. I think it's past the point of regeneration. To be honest I would rather just remove the bloody thing as it will only fill up and cause problems again if replaced.
I do tend to drive around with RPM below 2K most of the time (it's a sluggish whale of a car so I drive it as such), I don't think this has helped, unfortunately my job requires a LOT of short journeys so not much I can do about the driving pattern.
I have found one local mapper that says he can do it.. waiting on a call back to confirm.
At least it decided not to go into limp today (for now).
I'm not sure what's it like in Audi world, but for us Leon PD170 owners, you have to be VERY CAREFUL which mapper you use to perform a DPF delete.
AFAIK there is only one place for the PD170s to get their DPFs deleted and the engine remapped correctly (JBS in Chesterfield) as the map is from CustomCode coupled with a milltek downpipe.
All the other mappers have tried and failed to remove the DPF regeneration code from the map, leading to the ECU attempting to regen a non-existent DPF, and knackering the engine in the process.
YMMV naturally.

Might not be the DPF might be a simple pressure sensor, they're known to go.
No DPF removal is available for the A4 170 TDI, for the golf and leon yes, these engines are mounted the other way round remember.
My DPF failed after my fuel pump filled it with oil, long story, my Audi mate was going to fab up a straight through and map it to ignore the relevant sensors (pressure sensor, 4 lamda sensors etc.) but he advised that it might still light up like a xmas tree so rather than spending £1k plus on fabing up I replaced like for like.
I recommend you do the same, severe risk of false economy.
Yes it is a PITA and it restricts the car, I would say remap it at £450 to reach 210bhp to overcome this, I did.

OP take a look at this thread, I had the same issue and it was a £41 sensor that fixed the issue...

If the glow plug lights on theres a fault in the system causing the dpf to block.
99/100 times its the G450 (exhaust gas pressure sender). Cheap part to replace so just get it done and stop messing around with welding dpfs etc. You'll only make things much worse!

The thread is talking about this G450 sensor.

NO need for a £1000 fabricated exhaust and £350 remap, when £50 worth of sensor will see another 100,000 miles of happy motoring.
Hello guys.
My wife just had the same issue.
We have a Seat altea 2.0 tdi pd170 and have had it since approx july 2010 and the dpf light has come on approx 4-5 times in that time.
The regen glow plug light has come on for the second time. So looks like might have to take it to the dealer.
Im interested to know whether its the same G450 sensor going on ours. Does this sensor flag up on VAG COM as last time we took it to Seat Dealer for poor running they wasted our time telling us it needs a regen when the dpf light wasnt even on.
A bit fo Italian style driving turned it off and its not been on since until now.
Hope someone can clarify the above G450 sensor info.
cheers
