Audi RS6 Plus

Limited edition 480bhp Estate Car

Audi's performance division, Quattro gmbh, have released details of their new barnstormer - the RS6 Plus.

Power is up 30bhp on the standard RS6 to a heady 480bhp and peak torque is now a gut wrenching 413ft.lb available from 1950rpm up to 6000rpm.

The increased performance has been derived from the ECU. Extensive meddling by the Audi's engineers found the extra performance from the twin turbo V8. To cope with the additional loads on components, there are two additional radiators behind the intercoolers.

To haul the beast to a halt, large drilled discs have been used which can be seen behind the new 19 inch wheels. Buyers of the RS 6 plus can in addition order sports suspension plus, at no extra charge. This provides variable damping, firmer spring/damper settings and a body 10 mm lower than the RS 6.

Three different trim packs will be available. The Blue equipment package comprises the special paint ‘Sprint Blue’ pearl effect for the body, with seats in black leather with silver-coloured Alcantara centre sections. The blue threads in the carbon fibre inserts echo the body colour.

The Audi RS 6 plus with Silver package has the special body colour Silver metallic, and the black leather seats contrast subtly with the Alcantara centre sections, which are also black. The matt brushed aluminium trim inserts provide contrast.

The Black/Cognac equipment comprises Ebony Black pearl effect and trim strips in black piano finish. Inside are Cognac-coloured leather seats with black piping.

The RS 6 Plus is only available in estate body style. Less than 999 will be built and the last three digits of the VIN are reproduced on a plaque inside the car, displayed on the centre console.

I was looking for an estate to fill up with the wife, the kids, the weekend shopping. I guess I've found one . . . and now the job to pay for this thingy.

Just the thing for the Beaujolais run.

Shame that getting it back so fast won't make it taste any better.

Best wait a couple more months and throw some skis in the back instead.

480BHP. I have nothing else to say.

Oh, well actually it is German, but I might let it off.

They should have gone for 500 BHP to steal the new 5's thunder. The tuning companies get much more power out of the engine than 480 BHP. Not a big deal, me thinks.

I was disappointed to hear the rumour that Audi have dropped plans to mount the Lambo V10 in the next gen RS6. Apparently it simply won't fit!

It must be able to as the S6 will have it fitted - de-tuned of course.

RS6 will have V8TT for some reason.

My understanding was that the plan was to use the V8 bi-turbo in the S6, and the V10 in the RS6. However, the V10 won't fit so the V8 bi-turbo will be used in both, albeit in different states of tune.

Is that why your username is "insurance_jon"? Either your insurance is costing you as much as the car, or you need to have pulled an insurance job to afford one

Hmmmm - I've been thinking on this car and I think it's a bit stupid, to be honest. What's the point of it? In most circumstances can't use the speed safely on the highway, it's hardly a track car, if you drive it to the point where this extra performance comes into play your passengers will be quivering wrecks. If previous performance Audi's are anything to go by (excepting urQuattro) it'll have a standard fuel tank giving a range of maybe a couple of hundred miles - less if you use all the power, which means the journey time you might cut by driving like a beast from hell will be added on when you stop at the pumps again.

Time for a 1.9 Tdi I think....

Doesn't VAG have the V10 diesel for economic high speed traveling: put it in svp!

No I stand by what I say. The RS6 is just academic numbers in a nice package. The RS6 plus is even more academic numbers in a slightly nicer package. What's the point of a car that drinks more fuel at any given speed so that it can use even more fuel to achieve speeds that are of no practical use. Wind an RS6 up and set the comp to instantaneous fuel consumption.... you'll see what I mean.

But it's an estate car that will out-accellerate a 911. That's got to be worth cool-points in anyone's book

Personally, I'd love one (if I could afford replacement tyres every 10,000 miles, warped brake disks every 15,000 miles and a £450 service every 20,000 miles). I need a better job I think!

I'd have it in black, and put flowers spelling out "Mother" in the windows so everyone thought it was a hearse

Is that a useful thing though? There are lots of much cheaper cars that will do that, and handle better into the bargain.

I still agree with myself - it's a silly car. Fun in the same way as V8, turbocharged ice-cream van.
