Carbon cannister

I need a replacement carbon cannister for the fuel tank breather pipe on my 500 Griff. Does anyone know where I can get hold of one? Cheers.

Mostly in people’s rubbish bins as it is little more than a pointless piece of ballast.

What symptom do you have that makes you think you need a new one ? Think it is a land rover part if you really want one.

Petrol tank has started to make popping and banging noises - seriously loud - and when I release the fuel cap, air rushes in some I'm assuming its a vacuum building up because the breather isn't working. The Bible says this is probably because the carbon cannister is shot and needs replacing.

It is there to stop any fumes that may escape from the tank vent pipe escaping to atmosphere. Any fumes are captured in the canister and under control of the ECU under particular engine conditions purged into the inlet manifold. It lives behind the cover to which the washer bottle is attached and is surprisingly heavy. In my humble opinion the tank (now your car has passed type approval) is best venting to atmosphere. The canister can then be removed and used as an ornament. Others may have a quite different opinion.
I understand they can get clogged.

Have you got a non standard/alloy petrol cap [leven or similar]. They are "too good" a fit and do not let the tank breathe. I understand that this should be the case if the breather/carbon cannister is working properly, but if not, then a simple nick in the rubber on the cap should do the trick, No more tank popping and banging, an no venting when you remove the cap.

Ah, the famous 'nick' in the rubber seal !!

Still not worked out where the 'nick' goes. I have asked the question before as I too suffer the 'bonging' petrol tank when it gets down to half full. Is it a case of cutting a slight v in the rubber or cutting a gap right through ?
