Re-Starting after a Re-build

Hi,
I would be grateful for advice on the following:

I'm in the process of re-building my Griffith 500 motor and want to build up oil pressure by cranking it over in the engine bay, rather than just connecting everything up and firing it straight up. I'll disconnect the ignition side but mainly I dont want to bore wash the cylinders with unburnt fuel so am thinking about how to isolate the fuel pump.

I tried to crank it over part way through the strip down (to test the compressions on all 8 cylinders) by pulling the fuel pump fuse but this seems to be connected to the alarm system which wouldnt let the starter motor turn, so I'm not sure that this is a solution.

I could pull the electrical connection off the fuel pump itself, but it runs for a couple of seconds to build fuel pressure and then switches off as part of the ignition sequence, so if I pull the connections off the pump, will it also have a tantrum and not let me turn the motor over?

Im also considering include removing (or rather not connecting) the injector connectors so they dont fire whilst leaving the fuel pump connected, so that the fuel pump is effectively pumping fuel round the system and straight back to the tank.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

All you have to do is put +12v to the spade term on the starter, even with the ignition off (but you wouldn't see the dash gauge then). Remote starter switches that do that are only a couple of quid..

Pre-priming by squirting oil down the pressure switch hole is normally sufficient IMHO.
