Emerald and IACV

For the guys running emerald with an IACV, do you set the base idle in the same way as with the 14cux system?

Can the Emerald drive a stepper? I thought most people got rid and used a (Ford I think) three wire bi-directional thingy. The only idle settings I played with on an Emerald were on an AJP, and I just used spark timing - it worked well enough.

I use a Bosch two wire IACV.

The valve you have will be either open or closed when you pull the power (or give constant power). So that is all you need to do when setting the base idle, so that the extra air valve is fully closed whilst setting (engine warmed up...).

True , tonight I have taken the valve out and checked at what value on the ECU it is fully open and fully closed.

Do you have to use a valve ? I just ticked the box to let mine control idle using ignition advance, seems to do the job very well.

I didnt at first, but the starting wasn't very good, and as I have to reverse down my drive onto a main road, the cutting out got a bit hairy !!!!

You must have the warm up fuelling a bit wrong. Mine starts and idles nicely. It just needs help on the throttle for about 10-15 seconds then it is fine.

You don't *need* an IACV, but it makes the car run much nicer with one. I set mine up with it shut fully (using the idle screw and ignition/injection control), with the idle a bit lower than I'd want, then once it was all stable with as little hunting as possible, I cracked it open slightly to get a nice strong smooth idle. Then switch off and leave it to cool, and start doing the cold start using the base number as a starting point.

I don't run one, never have with the Emerald set up although I kept an option in the loom for one and it's only initial start from cold when you'd know due to a richer smell. Otherwise I'd defy any one here to tell the difference at all . . .
