squeeking, shooting and knocking

Last weekend I participated with my father to a rally. We got lost and competitive as I am I found myself driving my Griff throug a unpaved small road into the fields to cut the way.
I did not drive realy fast, but there were 2 or more deep holes I went through.
Since then, I hear from time to time, a lot of knocking or snapping under the body when driving on a non flat road. I even feel it sometimes at my feet.

Anybody knows what that can be?

Get the car on a four post lift,, Could have snapped a outrigger, Hope not and hope its a small problem like a drop link..

Sh...., you mean I might have broken one of those corners of the chassis?
And I just subscribed to the continental meeting at Zolder.

I will check, hope it is not the case, but it sound logic.
Does that mean body off?

Dont start panicking have a look , Could be something simple & cheap....

I don't think it is a drop link, because I especially hear the noise when the car is 'twisting' like when you are on a higher point with one of the wheels. Noise of a drop link would probably be more related to vibrations during driving.

Cannot get under the car right now, will have to wait untill tomorrow.
If it would be a broken outrigger, would you know where or how to look for it?
Any idea on what else it could be?
I know some bushes are worn, but I do not think they explain the 'snapping' sound...

Worn bushes and a deep hole could mean the bush has finally sheared. Alternatively the tie bar on the bottom wishbone could have gone. Could be any one of a number of issues relating to suspension/steering. Could even be some debris wedge in - as mentioned you need to get under it and have a butchers

Had to move the car yesterday evening and did a little test. The knocking and squeeking comes most probably from underneath my bottom... of course at the bottomside in the middle of the car.
Are there any joints or connections placed at that point that could make this sound?

The rear anti-roll bar is not to far from the seats! As was previously suggested it could be a drop link which connects the anti-roll bar to the lower wishbone that has broken, or more likely the mounting bracket on the wishbone which the drop link bolts to, these mounts are prone to metal fatigue. It's quite possible that your off-road adventure has broken one or both of the mounts.

Had the car on the bridge yesterday, but could not find anything!
Only one of the bushes at the rear arm seemed to be worn (the rotating point was touching the chasis. All other points were checked and seemed ok or at least not to far gone to make the snapping noise (bushes rear and front, rubbers exhaust, rubbers gearbox, rubbers antirolbar and its brackets, forgot to check the drop links however) ... I am realy puzzled
The snapping/knocking just continues and seems to become worse. Hope I can participate at the continental meeting at Zolder.

Anyone an idea that concludes the case?

So the arm outer tube where the bush goes is actualy on the chassis rail!

Can't imagine that sounds too good when on the move ?? It must be realy worn out to move that far... Are you sure it's not snapped the bolt going thru it??

Also.

Have you checked the flexable bit on the exhaust?... that can sound nasty if fractured and t5he exhaust can bang on the bell housing / chassis etc...

The exhaust system is supported at the front by a small bracket that bolts into the gearbox casing.
Quite common for the bolt to fall out and not too obvious if you are not aware of its location. That could cause the exhaust to wander about.

Checked the exhaust, tried to move, banged on it etc..., no sound.
Engine mounts do not seem likely, because the sound is located somewere in the middle of the car, but I will check anyway.
It is realy anoying having a car that looks ok, but makes this stupid sound. And I still do not know where it comes from. Hopefully it is nothing serious...

I had a similar metallic grinding snapping noise on my Discovery which I swore was from underneath and outside....turned out to be a cracked seat frame! The noise was the broken ends rubbing together.
