Just checked the web site, the new claims are even more outrageous than the old amp. I bench tested that against the LUCAS unit and its hight voltage was actually lower, although the spark duration was longer. Talk of 50 kv is pure fantasy the coil simply wont produce this however good the amp. Anyway its not that its about peak voltages, its about maintaining a decent voltage as the RPM rises and the dwell period becomes very short, and thats down to careful matching of the distributor rotor, amp and coil design that Lucas did pretty well to start with. Note that the test they base their claims on was against an old points driven system!! These guys really should get an award for techno bull.

Be careful if you look primary switching times, you can get some nasty back EMF floating the primary when the coil discharge's, it blew one of my scopes up. You also need to really spin the distributer fast enough to represent the peak Rpm of say 6200 whilst monitoring the EHT and spark durations. Truth to tell, you wont see much more than 10 - 20kv if you discharge the coil via a plug anyway, ( it goes a lot higher open circuit) as once the spark starts its a very low resistance path, so the EHT then drops from its firing voltage to enough to keep the arc burning (say 5kv), so talk of 50kv is completely meaningless. From this point onwards the duration of the spark is not just derived the residual energy in the coil, but HT lead resistance as well. Low resistance HT leads give a shorter but more intense spark. More to the point you have to ask what are you trying to achieve, as after all once the mixture has ignited, its all pretty irrelevant what the spark does from that point onwards, so as long as the coil and amp can still reliably ignite the mixture at peak load and RPM, any further effort is a waste of money.blitzracing said:

All the above noted, you know your onions!!! i,m not a H P chaser just try to up date tech.have studied all this when at college then worked at Brands hatch on formala 2 cars, then whent to states to do films... ( PORN ) more money
