Evening fellas, just landed in Rouen France after driving 450m but think I'm going down! Whilst body was off for the riggers the engine mounts and rear bushes were done, figured they were to blame for knocking noise, but its back more than ever now.
Seems to come from transmission tunnel area and is a knock....knock when you accelerate and lift off, worst in first and second. I presume its a shot diff and mega bucks? I have another 3k to do including swiss alps and the ring!
Will it pop if I take it steady?
What kind of damage is diff rebuild?

Lol, maybe ill pop and see the.very nice man taking his workshop to le man's sure he will have a spare wink
Now where is that cheap French alcohol.

I would have thought cv joints or prop universal joints rather than the diff itself. Worth also checking diff brackets as they have been known to come loose and create similar noises.

When my diff went the noise was FAR worse in the higher gears than the lower one as the "slack" got taken up by the drive. This may mean good news?

Don't know on a griffith, but on wedges if the gear stick can move up and down (this is the test and there should nearly be no vertical movement), it can be that the extension housing at the back of the gearbox can hit the the drive shaft and cause what you are experiencing. If so, then it are the 4 bushes that are perished after 10 years or so.
Hope it is nothing serious, and that you can have it fixed quickly or keep lifting the gear stick up as a work around wink

I'll cross my fingers for a cv. Best way to describe is like towing an old trailer.
No verticle movement in stick, sod it, ill give it the beans over the alps, rather go flying backwards in a ball of flames, or if it happened on the ring I'd get a few YouTube hits smile

Isn't there still a TVR dealer North of Frankfurt? I seem to recall it was run by Christof who was a regular with us on PH back when it started. Hang on ...

If there there is no excess play in the CV joints & there there is backlash in the diff make sure the pinion shaft securing nut is not coming loose.
You will need to undo the propshaft flange where it meets the diff.

If the nut is working loose, which I have seen, the pinion gear will not be fully meshing with the diff gear wheel resulting in excess play in the drivetrain.
