Picked the Griff up today after some amazing work by Ray and Shaun. The performance is now nothing short of staggering, the throttle response from the ACT triple amazing (thanks Tim).Brutal performance, and the noise, sounds like a WW2 fighter plane. I swear a max muppet pulled behind me at the lights, one heavy blip on the throttle and i blew every bit of plastic off his saxo!!
The grin factor just got much bigger
Thanks Chaps.

Hi Harry
New stage 3 heads 404 cam tornado chip and the bosch afm. Now producing 309bhp and 344lbs ft of tourque. Its booked in with Mark Adams on friday who is convinced he can get even more!!! Amazing.
Very nice, interesting you've the stage 3 heads which, correct me if I'm wrong, have medium valves against the standard 500 big valves. Strange as it seems I'm sure the medium make more power
. Another querie, are you still running standard injectors in that
. Only ask as mine is a lowly 4ltr not making those numbers btw
, but the injectors are maxed out

Speaking with Mark today he said it would be ok with standard injectors because of the heads.
, well not sure I understand these simple engines myself anymore
, same heads but aparently mines drinking it like the injectors can't deliver, really need to sort it out once and for all. Mark if you're monitoring, I'll speak to you soon about the way forward, away in Athens next week so may be the week after.

Its good when u scare the shit out of a max pants owner aint it, i blew away an impretza last weekend, picture it: a mk1 cortina moderatly overtaking a lorry, max pants driver thinks, I'll show him who's boss. So he overtakes me, then when he overtakes the next lorry im hard up his arse if u will excuse the expression!, when he pulls in, i carry on straight up to 140 and he pulls back out but i just c him gettin smaller in my mirror. 3 miles down the road i'm cruisin at 70 and he comes up behind me but dosn't overtake for some reason! wonder why

the V8 heads will give more torque - as if you need it, but no more BHP.
standard injectors were considered fine for 310bhp untill recently when the big 500's with Act triples etc needed more fuel to peak power.
mine gave another 8-12 BHP on bigger injectors (over a matched/cleaned set of standard Lucas)as they have more fuel and a better pattern.
nice one demo2...how many times you bin to McDonalds car drive thru then. that's where they all hang out round here. I took mine down some time ago, no real interest till a "Dad" came over with his 10 year old.
Very nice he says (chat chat chat)
kids says "what does it sound like"
noisy! i say
lets here it then
blips throttle to 2500
yeah ok he says
stand round the back then...
5000 rpm wth 128db on over run,
JESUS CHRIST says dad...kid runs away!
car park stops, car surrounded by "Laxpower" brigade who are most impressed by the wheels and the brake size
no hope for them really

Guillotine,
Hope the backs getting better - sorry you couldn't make the Hullavington track day on Friday.First real run out for both Starmist's and my car since the set up session at Mech and both cars performed very well.Something very satisfying about watching those Lotus jockeys become distant specks in the mirror when you get the power on in the straights
Only just made it through noise testing though - even with the 4 silencer inserts!

Yeah, sorry you couldn't make it, Guillotine! It was a cracking day. Only got passed twice, once by a racing Caterham on slicks, the other by an R500 Superlight being driven by someone who knew what he was doing.
There was nothing that could overtake on the two straights, and to be honest nothing that was being driven any quicker through the twisties. The two Caterhams only got let by because they were able to brake that much later for the corners.
I cooked my front brakes (but no fade) and my already low front tyres are now illegal.
Only major handling problem was understeering in low speed 2nd gear corners. Short of planting the throttle rally style and steering from the back there was little I could do to wash it off.
Great moment when I was behind Tony (Green Chim 450) coming out of the hairpin doing synchronized power slides in perfect formation!
Will book another very soon. Am looking into the TVR Car Club one at Castle Coombe on 18th(?)

hey guys, glad u had fun...i KNEW you would!
now i need to get u on a track!
seriously hullav/MSE is a great combination, and they always put up a good show. did the weather hold off, its more fun if it doesn't
but i'm sure it was damp enough for some fun.
Starmist, low speed mid corner understeer is unusual. if you were fast in with heavy braking
then it may well have been the front lifting as brakes were re;eased (squeezeon/squeezoff) with low front tyres there should be no probs...unless you are low at the back. anyway soyunds like you were quick anyway!
not sure about Coombe (noise) but hullav/mse is back again on the 18th, i'll be there.
coombe (TVRCC) is on the 29th i believe.
by the way, hope you guys weren't gunning too hard on pinking...you'll cook your top end
tiny, glad you had fun...and glad you made it thru noise
i knew you would.
well i can sit upright now, can walk and SSSSLLLEEEEEEPPPPP at last so i am on the mend, but i'm off to spain for a bit so Hullav is going to be the first shot.
cheers all
PS have just booked...
Le mans
Dijon
Nurbergring (again)
they still have a few slots if you wish to live the high life...just like the Persuaders it is...giving me age away there!
cheers

Weather held off okay. A bit of drizzle in the afternoon, but a dry line soon appeared. Rear is not particularly low, but I think the rear springs / dampers are well past their sell by date, so perhaps it is a little lower than it should be. I was turning before I got on the power and I think there is just natural understeer in these conditions. If I could afford to put some power on, I could balance it with some oversteer and tuck the nose in, so perhaps I justed wanted entering the corner slow enough.
I know that at the top right hander (after the chicane) I was probably coming in a little slower, braking, hitting the power as I was turning and managing to keep the nose tight again the inside cones through the corner.
That was the first dry track day I have done (of 3), so have not really had much practise driving the car on its limited, so I probably just need to learn how to drive the car a bit better.
Managed to sort out my pinking problems - the earht I had made up for the coil wasn't man enough, so fitted a battery earth cable and all it fine.
Cooked the brakes though. Any suggestions on some pads to run in standard brakes that will take some more heat?
So waht have you done to your back?

andy,
good to here the pinkings sorted. and it MAY be that your just asking too much of the car! there is alot of weight at the front and if you can brake and turn in, then there's not much wrong with it! most will spin as the back is completely of load. your car seems to be running very similar to mine, we can only tell when comparing speeds at turn in.
Generally if you have a prob at low speed it become MUCH worse at speed - which you're not getting. the signs are good. specially if you can stay anywhere NEAR an R500!
as for brakes, i used to run Greenstuff with EBC drilled discs. did me fine, but quality is not good.had two sets of discs before the good set.then they were fine. if you can, get good brake...there worth it
banged my back out after helping a neighbour with some hardcore
should know by now that i'm no longer 25!
on the mend now, but am going gently as i don't want to feck it up before me Hols!
will be at hullav for another tuning day on the 18th...see before @Tiny
cheers for now

Really want the factory upgrade that you've got, but I don't think I can wait until the new year for it. Next option is to get another pair of 16" rears and put them on the front to allow bigger brakes by Penninsula or similar. Since I need to change my front tyres now anyway, I would like to get some 16s NOW. Anyone got a pair of Estoril rears they don't want (ha ha)!

Anyone know the exact details of this, does a stage 3 head have smaller valves? is there a stage 4 or 5 head that has the same size valves. and what do V8 dev do with all the exchanged 500 heads with Bigger valves (if its true) ????
