......at warm up usually and not every time. Usually it cuts back in after a few seconds shoving the car if accelerating or restarts quickly. Has been doing this for a few months and only have the time to sort now (been at S&D also for a while....I`m not just a lazy git).

So all comments/help appreciated.......:-)

Oh car is a 1994 500/T5 `box, non-pas, if you need to know, chaps!

similar problem a few years back, cured it by new coil, rotor arm and leads..... sorry cannot be more specific as we just ditched all the old stuff and put on new to save the painful trial and error diagnoses

Rotor, dizzy cap, coil, shrouds (lucas stuff) changed about 4 years back but the leads are much older. Leads are the 8mm magnecors, plan to change these anyway but not maggies again......

Make sure the multiplug to the AFM is securely fitted. They can get dislodged or left undone after work in the engine bay. Ignition amplifier is another thing to consider.

hi samgamgee,

strange suggestion this but..

failing imobiliser? (cutting and reinstating fuel supply?)

the reason i suggest this is a convesation i had a couple years ago with alarm guru Carl Baker.

He said several times he has had people eventually turn up at his having replaced loads of ignition stuff and gone round in cicles trying to solve a cutting in and out prob on your age of (foxguard?) alarm.

give him a call (this is a recommendation, not an advert!) 0772 072 3407

hope you get ot the bottom of your problem,

Belchy

Have you checked the 100amp fuse in the passenger footxell, mine did this for a while until I traced it there. Not the chassis mounted one, just the passenger footwell one (if you have one - not all of them do)

Swapping the ECU cured my similar issues. Started with stalling then got worse, ie would lose 1 bank. ECU was corroded inside with lots of white powder.

Belchy could be right on this had exactly that problem not on my TVR but on a couple of Fords I owned years ago and after replacing nearly everything turned out to be dry joints on the immobiliser board quite scary when you are driving along the motorway and your engine cuts out you lose your power steering quick turn engine off switch back on while coasting and off we go again.
Good luck with getting it fixed

Dumb, but quick and easy to check - power to the fuel pump? Mine cut out occasionally, then re-started after a few stabs. Turned out the spade connector was grubby. You should be able to hear the pump. Hasn't cut out since fitting a new connector.

Where's the wood?

Can hear the pump but costs nothing to do a clean up.....so will do that too!!!

Mine was cutting out a few weeks ago (thread here somewhere), most likely culprits were the immobiliser or ignition amplifier, but in the end it was a bad connection on the 15A fuse in the main fusebox for the ECU and ignition circuit. Worth checking perhaps, although in my case this also stopped the fuel pump from running with the ignition was turned on, so if you can hear your pump priming then it's presumably something different.

I had a similar thing a year or so ago and it turned out to be a hairline crack on the dizzy cap.

Cheers
