21yrs since the start, 10yrs since the end - how about a run

The growl is a great occasion and is 'the' annual event for the Griffith, long shall it continue to be so and well done to Paul and Andrea as there is always far more effort in these events than is witnessed by the participants.

Is there maybe a space in the anniversary year next year for an event that is less static, one where the purpose is to drive your Griffith, on great roads with other Griffiths?

It seems to me we're fast becoming the forum who likes to park our cars and talk about them, even the S series guys got out of the country and their cars are making ours look young. The Cerbera guys seems to get away annually as well . . . what about some thoughts on celebrating 21yrs since the start of production and commisserating 10yrs since the end, a celebration of driving them?

I'm always struck by the number of single marques I see tackling the Alps together and wonder why is it we don't seem to be able to do this with TVR's greatest car, a British classic, future E type etc etc . . .

Thoughts?

Having watched most of the Tour de France there must be a few fantastic routes just following a couple of their days.

This could be problamatic for the masses..... BUT I can't see why not have a tour of somewhere or other culminating in turning up at the Growl say for the Sat evening to one be welcomed as home coming heros from an epic adventure and also join in in the evenings festivities.

I am guessing but you may get circa 10 cars if planned suitably well in advance ...... and as Ian says the roads on the Tour De France looked fantastic....

Start line at the Reims old circuit on the Saturday morning, 7 days of driving fun, finish line at the Growl Saturday afternoon/evening.

Best tunnels are south of Aosta, but that's a bit South, easy to do a route with Route Napolean, Alpe D'Huez, Vence, Ventoux, Turini, Millau, Corniche des Cevennes, Tarne, Verdon and Puy de Dome in that time.

Or alternatively go into the Alps via the Blackforest, doing the Andermatt Loop of Grimsel, Susten, St Gotthard and Furka, also Oberal, Nufenen etc . . even Davos to Stelvio if people want too.

Lots of miles, I'm easy either way, but I know I have great routes for both runs. The only difference for me is the run through the Black Forest which would change the start point, but there's a man around these parts who has plenty of good routes through there and I'd really like to do these roads as it's been years since I have.

Sort of.

Well, no, not really.

The wire between the soloniod and the starter came free on the way back to Paris, so had to get a push start at the services after fuelling up. Managed to put the wire back on in the morning before I headed back to Calais from Paris. However, 10 minutes after setting off, the car decided to have one of it's random dicky fits and cut out, leaving me stranded on the hard shoulder on the outskirts. And guess what, the wire had worked free again so I had to phone a friend who came and helped me push start it again. Only to get as far as the middle of nowhere and the same happened. So, I was stuck, middle of nowhere crouching under a tree in the pissing rain with the ferry departure time quickly approaching. Some dude turned up to tow me away but after some serious persuasion, I managed to convince him a push would do. It did. Got going again and got to the ferry port where 'pushes' were easier to obtain. Got off the ferry and drove straight back up North in one hit. Stressful journey but got home under my own steam in the end.

All fixed now and running sweet. What a time to get so many little issues which caused big problems!

So at least the bit I fixed didn't cause you any more grief, like I said, it needed some attention. My run back to Paris was uneventful, other than rain
