Pre cat manifolds on a serpentine
Discussion
I think there was a red factory test car that had lots of different engines fitted over the years and when the guy bought it, it had a 500 engine and 500 cooling system fitted although it was originally a pre-cat. He returned it to pre-cat manifolds and I am sure that there was a write up on this in the book, the TVR Griffith Story. I'm travelling at the moment but will have a look when I get back.

What about thinking around the Cerb / P38 style remote stat so you can just pipe the coolant ahead of the manifolds. A swirl tank to separate air near the rad should be OK as long as the expansion tank is nice still nice & high like Daves shows?
ETA: I'm still not clear in my mind if the 90 deg bend in the manifolds will clear the serp ancills? - that big bit on the alt bracket to hang AC & even the PAS housing...

They are indeed Paul. Not sure how much good they do, but it was better than welding up cracks in the standard manifolds every other month.
What's up with Japanese parts Plasticman? I generally find them to be simple and well production engineered - the exact opposite of British things - fantastic design principles but no effort made in QA and production engineering. (I prefer to use off the shelf parts for my mods if I can get away with it)
You could easily duplicate the ideas having a proper stat bypass, self bleeding radiator and more sensible pressure relief without using a single Japanese part if you desired.

That was Dave's (mack on here) car, Jenny or 284JNN. Used in very early promotional work - most famously pictured next to an aircraft - maybe a Tornado (from memory)?Peter

You're right about Macks car Paul, if I'm not mistaken his 'pre-cat' manifolds were a custom job from JP though?I bought his old 'new' manifolds & had them converted to bolt-up flanges by Trick at JP, largely on the back of Daves' glowing reports about them

That's the one. The picture of the repositioned swirl tank to clear the pre-cat manifolds is on page 107, bottom right hand corner. Looks very neat.FFG

I was looking at putting some pre cat exhaust manifolds on to my 5 litre griff ( with power steering ). It looks like I am going to have to get another swirl pot made up so wondered if it has been done before and if there was an easier way , thanks , David
Dave would that be the ones you have hanging up in your garage collecting dust!,hows that creation with all that carbon and honeycomb doing I saw?.Gassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
