FAN PROBLEM, any advice?

Blokes, seem to have a problem with fans staying on all the time. Was intermittant yesterday but now they won't go off at all. Have disconnected; override switch, temp' sender [if it's the one on the front of manifold, as there isn't one on the swirl tank] and each relay and only then do the fans stop in correspondance to the relay. Like to get sorted asap as going to LeMans in it Wed'. Any help very much appreciated.

Must be the otter switch then - 'fraid it'll have to be a new switch!

had this 6 months ago after some "tinkering"

in my case it was the earth return for the relays. they were wierd coming on and then wouldn't go off! my return was the cluster of black wires at the back of the rocker cover on the passenger side bank. they should attach to the inlet manifold. or you can run your own earth. i did both. sorted.

check your earth by putting your own on, the fans / relay.

Blokes, The otter switch isn't on the swirl tank, would it be the one on the side of radiator? only just disconnected this one and fans stopped. Is there a way of testing?

Later models have the otter switch bottom of rad as you say. If it is stuck closed circuit then the fans will be on all the time with ignition. If you pull the 2 wires off and the fans go off that sounds like a stuck otter switch.

To test you can run a multimeter / continuity tester across the otter (take wires off first) when the engine is cold. If it shows a straight through cricuit it's bust.

In this weather not much of a problem though the current drain is quite high for both fans. Even so, it's far better to have the otter stuck on than off (which is the more usual case)

My fans have done this a few times intermittently. Always suspected a stuck relay or bad earth as it seems to happen more in the damp/wet.

I have a new otter switch which I haven't fitted yet but it's for my pre-serp Griff and fits in the swirl pot, not sure if they are the same but your welcome to it of you stuck.

test the otter in the kettle. should go short cicuit just before boiling

Thanks for the help guys, it was the otter switch after all. Got one from D.Geralds only up the road, fitted, tested, OK. All set now.
