Has anyone got any pics of how these mount to the car. There doesn't seem to be any pics I can find online.
Im talking abour the normal style of bar with the flat top rather than the twin hoops style.

The rear is fixed through the carpet into captive nuts on the chassis.

The front fixings are plates welded on at 90 deg and fix to the seat belt mounts.

I'm not sure that the pre-cats have the plates welded on for the roll bar to be fitted to, so some additional works may be required (I could be wrong, but I do recall something to do with precats and rollbars)

Yes I believe that the rear mounting poinst aren't there on the early Griffs.

Precats don't have the screw in mount that 500s do, so they clamp around the chassis tube above the diff - well at least the Tower View Racing one did. Beware that the single bolt per side on the 500s isn't necessarily enough to keep the roll bar attached in the event of a roll over...

What's the alternative and can I strengthen this?

Mine is a `92 pre cat and its got the mounts or at least im presuming these are the ones you are refering to. Next to the rear of the upper rear wishbone.

look how close your head would be ..a shunt without a helmet would kill you ..Thats a lower seat !

There is no easy answer, actually, no answer for the road anyway, rubber bars?

hmmm ... minimal protuection from bar or or head/broken neck on the road.... roll bar is deff ny next, also adds to the stability of chassis

There is a long thread on this here where somebody actually did give an example of death by roll bar contact in an incident that would have otherwise have been survivable ... I'll hunt it out.

Ive had my TR lane bar for a couple of years and aint dead yet.
After seeing a nasty accident that killed a friend in drag racing very recently i have took a step back and going to make some safety changes to my car.

I havent even added padding to my bar yet so that will be the first job.

I don't disagree with you Quinny - like everything you need to make your own decision based upon the best information you can find. If I wasn't over 6' I would certainly have had some kind of roll bar in my car before now.

Proper motorsport padding may be the answer, (I know they sell it expecting you to wear a helmet but it ain't arf fick and more forgiving then a door pillar!).

Another thought. In a shunt how much force do we think it would take before the seat is ripped from the fibreglass floor? I added bracings to my chassis and the seat is bolted through these now.
