Fantastic photo's, still the best looking TVR of all time, I remember when I was in Port Grimaud and there was a LHD Griffth 500 for sale, it was twice the price of what a UK 500 would go for.

mine is for sale : 40 000€

but only 33000 miles, superb condition, full history, very reliable and only 5 sold in france, and 48 made worldwide.

Hi. Great photos and very nice Griff.

Though you may want to revise the number of LHD Griffs that exist to around 100 smilehttp://www.tvrblog.com/register-of-tvr-griffith-wi...

I am just about to acquire a Caterham to add to the collection, purely for trackdays.

Not road registered, SV chassis, superlight spec, Supersport 1.6 engine, LSD, 6spd, wide track, AP brakes etc . . The engine spec is not powerful enough at 135bhp, but I need the practise on track again ! The rest of the package is right and it will allow me to easily do an engine swap at a later stage. Potentially 1.9k or switch to Duratec power, but this will be a more expensive and complicated transplant.

thanks... actually, I was wrong.

I was thinking that TVR made 48 griffith 500 LHD, but they actually only made 35...

maybe 30 left now ?

OK, i gonna be nice and keep the same price for my french fellows.

It's really not economical to take a used K-series 7 and swap the engine to a Duratec, would be more econimical to but a Duratec 7 now or build one from new IMHO

Would agree normally, absolutely, but this will be an evolution over time and trying to find an SV chassis'd track car is a nightmare so far, perhaps one will turn up. Regards costs for Duratec conversion they vary significantly, but 10k is the biggest number I have seen so far . . That's why a 1.9k is also very attractive as you rightly have pointed out, at that kinda money for a Duractec you should start with one.

But then I like a project hehe

I built myself a track spec 280bhp 2.3l Duratec around an new R400 kit in 2004 (well before Caterham did them - see my profile picture) and even then an engine, gearbox, ECU, exhaust, radiator etc necessary for the conversion was more like £15K! Still 540bhp/tonne is pretty rapid on track so worth the time and effort smile

There are engine packages (2nd hand) going more commonly now, there was one on BC for 4k the other day (specs/condition) depending.

It's all the after parts that people do not normally declare the cost of properly, so I am not shocked by the 15k you mention. For me this is an out and out track car, so will evolve over time, but it is difficult to argue with the logic to chop it in when ready for the power hike.

Not sure about 280 though, not sure I would ever ever feel that I was getting the most from it, it would taunt me from the garage, calling me a sissy and sticking it's fingers up hehe

Seriously it must be huge fun . . .

lucky you....

in france, get a cat from UK registered officially, it is either not possible or so difficult that few of us have done it.

and prices are just ridicilous (40000€ for a 1995 R300 VS 20000€ in UK !)

Some great pics there. thumbup

Indeed, LHD TVRs tend to go for at least twice the price of their RHD counterparts (although a bit of that is 'condition' - Continental registered TVRs don't suffer nearly as much from chassis corrosion as (previously) UK-registered cars), and the gap has only widened with the favourable (for us) £-euro exchange rate (which has barely affected LHD prices, as there's only a small and finite number of them and buyers who want LHD tend to do so regardless of anything else).

Any idea about 500 LHD versus 500HC LHD (I have the later here in Canada).

Cheers,

Rob.
