sticky steering
Discussion
the steering on the griff "sticks" a little....
it feels like it is about every 1/4 turn, which points to UJ...it isn't bad on the road, but i if i jack the front, i can definately feel a tight spot...
I will pull the uj in the arch under the assumption that the crid there may have worn the uj, and will then be able to check the rack and column seperately for play or stiffness, but wondered if there were any common fails i should look for first....
thanks

Hmmm cheap and steering doesn't appear in the same sentance in my vocabulary it's a bit too much of an important a component for me.
ah... should have put that into context.....
having purchased a number of parts for the griff from retailers other than TVR suppliers, i've found some identical parts at better prices from other sources.....
any ideas IF the same applies to the UJ

UJ's are a common failure. Just make sure you mark things in such a was as you can find centre again easily
If you undo the four rack bolts and pivot it forward the UJ's are much easier to get off.

so far i have 2 part numbers, 0072 and 0073, both appear to be possibles for the upper UJ, which i suspect is the one that will need replacing.
any bets on which part number it is?

I don't know part numbers but I *think* there are three different UJ's the PAS and non-PAS cars use different parts.

thanks good write up, recatech are sending me the "correct" one out, so hopefully i can sort this sat am as the weekend weather looks pretty good
looking at your write up, looks like a bmw e36 rack might fit in there, have though about PAS on the griff, but cant justify spending squillions on the set up.....will have to get the tape measure out

so near yet so far....
stripped the uj's off, and definately found the upper one (in the wheel arch) very stiff, offered up the replacement, to find it was 20mm longer than the one i'd taken off 100mm vs 80mm, so wont fit!

either there is an alternate uj which is shorter, or i need to get a shorter shaft made....
never easy is it
whilst the uj was off, checked the rack for ease of movement, which was fine, but i wondered if i ought re grease it whilst it is accessible....any recommendations?
