NO VACUUM DIZZY ADVANCE

Tested my vacuum advance by sucking on the plenum connection tube. Ballance weights no movement. Sucked air. Diaphragm may be caput. Griff runs ok despite this. Also runs ok if Plenum is allowed to 'suck itself' with dizzy connection removed . Some Griffs and 1960s Cooper Ss also did not have vacuum advance. Can the vacuum advance unit on the side of the dizzy be repaired or replaced without purchasing a new dizzy?
Yes they are available from the likes of http://www.famousfour.co.uk/ this does not apply to all the RV8 models/sizes/tunes but when mine decided to spit its dummy the car felt very flat low down and unresponsive until the revs picked up 
needless to say a new one was ordered shortly after and the car was back to its old self 
edited to say its a standard Land Rover V8 part circa late 80,s to mid 90,s 
make sure when fitting you engage the arm onto the base plate pin 
easily checked by sucking the vac tube and making sure the base plate rotates slightly

Thanks Simon. Brilliant. I now remember doing this on my old P6 V8 motor (The godfather of the TVR Griff 500)Yes, its the base plate that moves with a suck.
Can the the dizzy internals be unscrewed to do this. Below the rotor arm there is a message saying that this must not be taken apart !! Can this be done without upsetting something.

Can a new vacuum advance unit (Clever Trevor, £60) be fitted without without
1. Removing the distributor
2. Removing the dizzy cap, rotor arm and plastic base housing to get at the base plate peg.
My power steering pump gets in the way of removing the second screw. But it can be done with a short diy tool. Then I may use a dentist mirror to insert new vacuum unit, hopefully.
Took the Griff for a 'rocket' run yesterday. Doesent need a vacuum unit ???
