Alternate source for Driving lamps?

I remember reading a while back that the driving lamps ( the ones either side of the grill) are actually off a BMW E30 Series

can anyone confirm this?

Although they look similar and are the same size they dont mount the same. I Know as I recently tried to fit a pair.
They also aren't flat as the original one are.
Whats happened to yours? If you've broken one I have a spare flat Cibie that you can have?

neither of my driving lamps are working at present. i believe they are sealed units i.e. you cant replace the bulb - is that correct?.

You should be able to pull them out the mounting to change the bulbs. They use H1 bulbs.

just taken off my lamps - the ones either side of the grille and they are sealed unit and have no separate bulbs - is that normal?

You can change the bulbs. Do the backs not twist off?

I recently changed my main beam units as one had cracked...they weren't sealed beam, but reading a few posts seems some are. My replacements came from Racetech but Power have some at a good price.

Getting the old ones off was simple matter of popping them out of the rubber ring...putting the new one's on wasn't so easy.

Johno gave me the tip to take the entire mounting off the car and heat the rubber rings in boiling water then assemble on the bench...which made the impossible just about possible. Still cost me some skin off my fingers.

While the mounting rings were off I took the opportunity to replace corroded bolts with ss.

Also spade connectors on the back of the lamp were different, had to make new leads up with an H4 connector just using two of the three pins.

By rubber rings do you mean the plastic housing rings? When I changes mine i get the rings in place and managed to fit the new ones in by clipping the lamp in two of the clips then uses some string to pull the other clip out as its hard to get to

When I replaced mine (smashed up) I got a pair from Halfords (the other was well pitted). They said it was a specific TVR part (seems amazing) and that they had a warehouse full. Pricy - £54 each. Easy to fit.

My lamps are held into the plastic mounting ring with a big rubber elastic band...like a section of inner tube, which has to be stretched round the rim of the lamp and over the plastic mounting ring.

A very tight fit and impossible to do in situ without risk of breaking the plastic mount, which would be a disaster as they are no longer available.

I tried Halfords for lamps and they couldn't find the part.

Are other peoples different then?

The mounting ring can be seen here with the metal clips that hold the lamp in. Again do some cars have a rubber band then?

That's exactly the same main beam unit as my old one's...mounting ring is also the same as the one on the CT site but without the metal clips...wonder why TVR decided to use the rubber bands instead of clips?

just rechecked mine. they are sealed beam units by Wagner (no not the musical one) - no bulbs unfortunately
