Once again the wing mirror has decided to detach itself from the car (last time it was the mushroom thing that has sheared). This time it was my fault, when I put the short stub into the door (when fixing it last time) I must have cross threaded it and when I gave it the last wash of the year it came off again.

Anyway, new bobbin purchased, fitted, and the pain of trying to do up the grub screw again. It got me thinking though.

Does anyone have, know of or would want a bobbin that extended through the door using a retaining nut on the back. Then you could tighten the grub screw to attach the mirror mushroom to the bobbin off the car with no risk of damaging the paintwork and do up the bobbin through the door speaker hole.

btw when I was at goodwood I think I saw that the Jag XJ220 has the same mirrors.....

Did mine with trial and lots of patience without poking in the speaker hole. 4-5 whole clockwise turns of the mirror to get a tight fit without cross threading. Trial repoasition the 3mm allen grub until you get it into right position.

Wing mirror is originally from a Citroen CX and used on lots of low volume sports cars (although quite how they work on an XJ220 when they vibrate to uselessness above 130mph on a Griff I'll never know!)
