Griff Diff Mounts
Discussion
Hi guys, I have recently bought a set of Superflex Poly Bushes for my differential, so as I can replace when I refit the diff after a refurb. Have checked the existing mounts and the Poly bushes for the two side mounts are wider than the old ones (old approx 50mm new 60mm)? The rear mount is OK as old and new are both 60mm. The box the set cam in says it is for all years? Another thing, when removing the side mountings from the car there were some small spacers each side of the bush making up about 5mm? Am not sure whether the new mounts will fit, any advice? Pete
I had the same problem when fitting new poly bushes to mine. Mine is a `92 pre cat, i presume yours is the same. I think its only the early cars which are like this. All 3 bushes came all the same size. Like you say the two side ones need to be about 10mm shorter in length. Also they need to be a little less in diameter size.
My solution which has worked pefectly was to cut the rubber bush in half and then take a bit more off each one so they can be pressed into their housing from either side and fit perfectly. As i said they are slightly too wide in diameter as well, but they will press in using a vice. They are then such a tight fit they wont move. When you are trimming them down, make sure you take enough off, probably a bit more than you think as they will grow slightly upon being squashed into the housing, and once both are in they wont want to come out without wrecking them.
I have done mine like this and the bushes have been fine not moved at all. If you look at the chassis when fitting them, either end of the bush butts up to a diagonal cross member which will prevent the bushes moving anywhere.
But if you can get the correct ones as Ant states, do that. Unfortunately when i did mine i wasnt aware that you could obtain them. I tried several places but drew blanks, so resorting to the above. It has worked ok though.

Pete, they wont fit, the early precat GKN cars are different.
David Geralds sell poly bushes for these cars. They re-uses the spacers you mentioned.
From memory they were about 25 quid for the pair.
Hi Ant, have spoken with Doug at 'David Geralds TVR', he has them in stock and I shall be picking them up from their stand at the NEC on Saturday. Cheers mate, nice one.David Geralds sell poly bushes for these cars. They re-uses the spacers you mentioned.

If anybody is interested I do now have spare a brand new set of Powerflex Bushes for the later Griff diff mounts, send me a PM to discuss further if interested. Pete
Good news... my refurbished diff arrived back today from Bernie at CTS, also picked up the correct set of mounts from David Gerald at the NEC on Saturday. I still have that set of later diff Polybush mounts (Superflex) if anyone is interested? Can't wait to get the diff in and the Griff back on the road (not fogetting to put oil in it!!!), Pete

Great job by Bernie, I had to source a replacement Crown Wheel & Pinion (got a fantastic deal from John Reid at Grantura, £100 all in delivered to Bernie), it cost me about £400 including the dreaded government added tax (VAT) and delivery. His standard price quoted was £300 (plus VAT) for a complete strip down, replace all bearings and seals, rebuild, set loading and check. Have yet to fit back into the Griff and try out but I am sure it will be OK. It does not include oil by the way, that I got from Opie Oils (highly recommended). I still have that set of later bushes that are no use to me if anyone id interested? All the best, PeteGassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
