is a 93 4.0 block crossbolted or not?.....am considering a 4.6 upgrade, but wanted to check if i can reuse my existing block first..

i know i ought check, but my ca isnt here atm, so thought i'd ask first

Your engine will 99.9% not be crossbolted easy to tell get a torch down the side of the block and you will soon see.

Your engine will also be small journal so 4.6 crank will not fit. You can get the 4.6 large journal stuff (rangerover) machined down so it would fit. This was the original route I was going to take.

In the end I opted for a complete 4.6 from flebay for £400 with a slipped liner then bought a top hat block job done, strong 4.6.

thanks, i presume if i find a 4.6 shortblock or get one built, then all of the relevent 4.0 "kit" will just swap across....

You should just need a crank spacer to fit your front end, since the 4.6 crank is longer where the pulleys bolt on (even if you fit a later serp front end - but then you may have problems refitting swirl tank + new alt etc..)

So what were cross bolted,4.5 and 5 litre ?

All the 4.5's and the last of the 5.0's, 4.5's meaning the chims not wedges

fell onto a good deal (i hope) through a friend who has rebuilt a bunch RV8 for friends of mine

clean honed, deburred 4.6, polished crank, rods and good pistons.

new JE cam kit with springs and rebuild kit with spec suitable for a TVR (i have the cam spec) etc
new shells etc all round

ported heads, new locks etc

and a whole bunch of other RV8 goodies....

for about the price of a ebay pull out

guess I know what i am doing this winter
