I'm a new Griff 500 owner. Can anyone tell me what the yellow light means at the bottom of the dash in between the speedo and odometer?? It flashes on and off at hih revs (and I'm no mechanic!)

Oil Pressure Warning Light

Don't panic too soon, it may just be a bit of topping up required. The Rover V8 should use up a little oil - maybe as much as a litre per 1000 miles, so you can expect some oil consumption.

BUT BEST KEEP ON THE SAFE SIDE AND CHECK IT OUT BEFORE YOU DRIVE ANY FURTHER

Incidentally, which Oil should I top it up with?

0-40w Mobil 1.

At least, that's what it says on the tag attatched to the dipstick (not me ) on Wol.

It could also indicate that the oil pressure switch isn't working or a wire's loose. It could also mean the water pump gasket is leaking and shorting the switch - so check the swirl tank water level too.

Of course it maybe that you need to add some oil - PDQ!

Depends what you have in it now - just in case it's mineral oil which doesn't mix with synthetic (unlikely but you never know). Can you ask the previous owner or look at the last service notes?

Definitly worth checking. Mine has mineral oil in it due to a new cam being run in.

I normally use Mobile 1 15/50 but when in Le Man Johno reminded me you can get the 5/40 recommended.

I got 10 litres of the stuff for what i would have got 4 litres of 15/50 in Blighty.

Castrol GTX - as recommended by the DB himself - indicated 45 on start up, once warm below 15 on idle but immediately picks up to above 30.

84,670 miles - one careful lady owner.......






(And I've just driven it - it's not for sale anymore, I may stil p/ex but I don't think I can live without knowing there's a TVR somewhere nearby)

I got some Mobil 1 (not sure of the numbers though) when in France. It was 30 euros for 4 litres so pretty cheap. As you're off to the continent you may want to reduce the wine purchase and get some.

I've been using Miller, 10w60 racing oil (see millers oils and it seems pretty good stuff.

In my motor, this stuff seems to give plenty of oil pressure from cold - 30 lb odd - and doesn't seem to get too frazzled at the higher temps.

They also do that naughty octane boosting stuff - for track days on ly of course .
