Is it just me or is this what a Griffith engine bay should look like?

Can you get a nice smooth running engine from a set of carbs like this using an otherwise stock engine. I appreciate that it is not as efficient as FI but it just looks so right. Also the only engine with carbs fitted that I have seen, has the carbs poking through the bonnet, presumably to gulp some cold air and due to clearance.
