Immobiliser playing up.

Hi All.

Firstly I'm a new member here so hi to everybody. Just found this site and spent a pleasant couple of hours reading all your posts.

Now, the reason I found the site was I need some help with my car. Here's the story :-

I moved house 18 months ago and put the car into storage. It's a 1998 Griff 500. I've built a new garage in the time since I moved in and so two weeks ago I went and got the car. No problems at all, connected up a new battery and drove it home to it's new parking spot, stopping off for fuel along the way.

Yesterday i went to get it out, and it won't run. The locking and alarm are working perfectly, but the immobilser light is not coming on, and the fuel pump is not getting power as i turn on the ignition.
I've checked the inertia switch and it's not that.

Obviously i've been indulging in the usual contortions in the passenger footwell in order to fit the new battery so i'm wondering if i've dislodged something there. I've checked all the fuses, and swapped the two hanging relays over to no effect. (I think one of them is the fuel pump relay?).

If anyone has had similar problems i'd love to hear what it was. Also i can't find the actual immobiliser, (didn't look too hard but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction).

Yep. There is also a 15amp fuse in there which I managed to crack the leg of. Might be worth visually inspecting them or sticking a meter across them too.

There is no power to the 3 loops so I'm looking for that fuse now as it looks like the immobiliser is not getting any juice.

Lovely Job. Adopt the Lotus position across the cills, balance the torch in the footwell etc etc. Might have to find an Osteopathic website soon!

I have a tip for the light. Drop the roof and place flood on a step ladder behind the boot

yours sorted now ? did you fit the relay for the solenoid?

Getting somewhere now thanks to massive help from wildeep. On removing the modules i have found a STRAY wire coming from the Alarm module!
It's the black one, next to the pink one on the small two pin socket. Maybe an Earth? Anybody help?

I've scribbled an arrow pointing to it on the picture.

Yes thanks David, mine is working perfectely now. Haven't fitted the solenoid yet, its the next job on my list.

Mark, pretty sure the stray wire is the antenna for the alarm remote. Mine was just coiled up so i tied it along under the dash and the remote seems to have a much better range now.

Thanks again Kim! Of course it'll need an aerial, fancy not thinking of that. I couldn't see where it had come from!
Looks like the immobiliser IS faulty then so on to the next bit.

Just to update you kind people i'v just made some shall we say modifications (Ta KIM!) and the car runs fine, so the immobiliser is definately knackered.

The actuall siren unit is prone to getting wet inside, i took mine apert once and found the circuit board was pretty coroded. Cleaned up with wd40.

AS its been standing for a while this may of happened and may be causing problems... I say may and might be worth a shot.

The alarm is a sepparate unit to the immobiliser so would not affect the operation of it. Glad its sorted now Mark. David Beer helped me with a similar problem i had with mine.

Nice feeling when they fire up again isn't it. Your always rewarded by that wonderful V8 burrrrbbbbble. Makes all the pissing about worth while
