New Wheels on my Wagon
Discussion
I've just fitted some Compomotive MO6s (18" rear, 17" front) and am delighted with the results. I thought long and hard about going "non-standard", especially considering the cost, but eventually fell for "bigger is better". I do think this style of wheel suits the Griff though, and they're actually lighter than the Estorils. Next up once I've saved up are some Nitrons to relieve the very tired original suspension - ride height will be sorted at that point too (slightly lower but nothing silly).

Very Nice, what was the quality of the finish like? i bought a set of the 5 spoke last year and was really disapointed with the finish! had to get them fixed out my own pocket

I also thought the quality of the centre caps let the wheels down, so had some ally ones colour matched, like the chrome look on your though.

I had the geo done at the same time (thanks Str8six), so it's not really a fair test, but it does feel a little more precise and stable, and even slightly lighter in the steering feel, at low to medium speeds especially. I suspect this is a combination of the fixed geometry (it was well out), and slightly lighter wheels. When it gets fast and bumpy it's still all over the place because of the old dampers, but it's certainly no worse than it was.
Cost: too much.

Indeed, I'm not expecting miracles
For me though the Griff doesn't need to be the ultimate B road (or track) car. It's character, especially the engine, favours a more relaxed driving style. I love it for what it is though
Spot on.... I totally agree, even though you're a girly Griff owner

Car looks stunning, love the wheels.... really looks the complete package...I think the wheels look really good.
I have to ask though.....when did you take the photographs?? Are yo uin some strange timewarp area of the UK that had sunshine in Decemeber!!!
I've taken the car out a couple of times Nov/Dec and it's been a bit hairy - very greasy road surfaces at the moment (good fun though!!).
When changing from the Estorils, I've always thought the problem is it exposes how small the brake discs look. Don't get me wrong, in normal road terms they stop the car well, but after changing to the AP conversion I have noticed a great difference. Maybe 'skimp' on the Nitrons, fit a set of Gaz shocks, and use the difference on some bigger brakes???

It was sunny for half an hour in Tring last week honest!
The stock brakes work fine for the way I drive the car and I'm not worried about the looks really, so I think I'll stick with the Nitrons plan (I'm assured by Str8six the difference over GGs is worth it, not least in long term reliability, which is important as I do hope to keep the car for a long time).
