uprated front discs necessary?

Previous owner of my G 500 had Tar-Ox G88 grooved front discs fitted. Think pads are standard. They are THE best brakes I`ve ever pushed, huge power with lots of feel. I`m not hard on brakes so don`t get up to `race temp` or experience fade but I like knowing that huge reserve of STOP is there, and I like to play sometimes - think loosening passenger seat is a result!
Discs are now worn and warped, warned against re-cutting grooved discs so looking to replace. Prepared to spend the 154 quid on Tar-Ox replacements although I`ve never hard stopped a Griff on standard discs so can`t compare.
Previous owner thought they were worth the extra - how does anyone else feel? Don`t want to take a step back but if it`s money wasted I`d like to know - LM killed my clutch and Goodwood FOS cost me AA membership when a fan drained the battery over-night. Well, clock stopped at 10.35pm, about the time we blew Euro 2004. Can`t speculate if there`s a connection.
