Hope all had a good christmas. Ok battery is dead after a 15 min run to halfrauds, how do I know if the batt is expired or if the alternator isn't charging?
Just put it back on the acumulator charger

When you get the cae started again put a voltmeter on the battery and see if the voltage changes when you rev the enginer. If the Alternater is ok the voltage shoulf rise,

How about keeping an eye on the voltmeter?
It wont be as accurate as a DVM , but will give indication.

When going, the voltmeter in the car reads between 13 and 15 v, no ignition light stays on. That any good as have no volt meter tester.

If you're charging it using an accumate and it doesn't hold charge after a 15 minute run with your lights and other cabin stuff switched off then its a good chance your battery is shot.

A quick and dirty check for your alternator is to switch on your lights and rev the engine slightly. If they brighten a bit your alternator is probably OK

My Halfords will check battery and alternator for FREE. They hope to make a sale! Check them out when you see them make the test.

Problem solved, someone decided it would be better to fit a 510 cca batt rather than the recomended 630 cca batt.
No wonder had problems trying to start it !!
