Griffith ground clearance?
Discussion
Hi, a quick question if I may - could anyone who happens to have a Griff and a tape measure lying around do me a huge favour and measure the ground clearance please, somewhere around the mid-wheelbase point? Seat mounting bolts were a low spot from memory, or more likely the plate that hold the exhaust up?
I realise ride heights differ car to car, but if I can get a 'worst case' measurement to work with that'd be great.
We're having the drive redone, and as another Griff is part of The Plan, I want to get the levels right - current Alpina has always bottomed out if driven in forwards, so I have to back it onto the old driveway. If I can get an idea of Griff ground clearance I can make up a wood template to make 110% sure I'll have no problems in the future. The near future I hope
TIA

I take it you don't have adjustable ride height shocks Andy?
You are right on the seat bolts being the low point in the middle of the car. I've scraped them a couple of times.
The bellhousing is possibly the low point at the front and the exhaust hanger at the back - but they are just guesses.

Hi Barreti, no adjustable shox because I've no car - yet
Did have a 4.3 which I stupidly wrote off, and have tried to get 'it' out of my system over the past few years, but just can't. Need another.
Seat bolts to floor distance anyone? Got the wheelbase at 2282, but need a mid point height to check the drive will be right. Just a rough guess would do?

And I've just googled, and found the Chimp wiki
"SuspensionThe suspension consisted of all round independent, unequal-length double wishbones and coil over gas dampers assisted by anti-roll bars. Ground clearance was about 5 inches (130 mm)."
Subject to number of golf clubs obviously. I'm guessing the Griff will be near as dammit the same.
As you were

I can't answer your question directly because my car is up on axle stands but I recently measured the ground clearance to the sill so I could buy a suitable trolley jack and it was 13cm or 5 inches as previously stated. My Griff is a 4.3 pre-cat on its standard original koni suspension.
During recent investigations ride height seems to be around 4 1/2" to the front outrigger corners and about 1/2" higher at the rear.
The points that would be lower than that are
the exhaust plate (about 1/2" lower)
the chassis to body bolts (again about 1/2" lower and these were the low points I found had taken a scraping when I dismantled my car),
the bottom of the bell housing (1/2")
the exhaust (1")
and of course the front splitter(assuming it hasn't already been taken off by a cats eye..)
Aim for around 4" of ground clearance and you won't be too far off..
