Is it just a case of bolting the later stuff on? In the Steve Heath book it says that the rear hubs might be different.
Am i right in thinking the parts are the same as the 4x4 Cosworths both Sierra and Escort? I believe the 2wd cosworths use a solid rear disc.

It is just a case of bolting the upgrade on.
You dont need the hub itself, but you do need the bearing carrier as it sets the caliper out further.
Mine came from a cosworth granny, but basically any Ford with 273mm rear vented discs. xr4x4,2.8 estate maybe.

IS this the part needed? http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/tvr-car-parts-deta...

TVR specific part or is it a ford part?

That is the part you need, as well as the disks & calipers obviously.

As soon as you split the carrier you really want to replace the wheel bearings... TBH it's easier to buy a pair of rear corners off a later TVR from the breakers, uprights + brakes IMHO (IIRC I only paid @£100 several years ago for a chim 450 rear at Douglas Valley).

How does that part differ to the one it replaces?

It kind of looks like the one I posted at the top of the thread. I can only presume that the one fitted to the cars with solid discs has larger bosses where the caliper bolts on to position the caliper further out to centralise it over the narrower solid disc

Solid disks came in both your smaller size & larger (same dia as vented), the carriers are paired with the disk diameter and same for the later solid or vented. Although how that TVR implementation timeline matches up to the Ford scenario beats the st out of me wink

As far as Im aware there were only two types of rear discs for the Griff. The smaller 253mm non vented disc as fitted to the early cars and the 273mm vented discs as fitted to the 500's.

Pretty sure, the ones for the smaller discs have more of a V between the mount holes.

This pic shows the shape of the solid disc application.

missed that bit.oops

As my chassis is in a thousand bits right now, thought id take the opportunity to enlarge the rear disc, so opted for this upgrade also.

picked up a set of 273mm vented discs, hubs and calipers, which seem to be in good condition, so will be going back together with those.

10MM longer ears chaps, thats it to accommodate the fact the discs are 20mm bigger wink think about it scratchchin I did this upgrade about 3 years ago as one of my original rear calipers was getting lazy anyway, and a guy on Ebay was selling NOS Ford vented calipers for silly money so hence the later brakes biggrin
