Hi,

I have just had 7 " headlamps fitted to the giffith and was surprised that when I used main
beam only the spot lights came on , no full beam or change in the main headlights ?

Is this usual or suspect connection ?

I would expect the main beam to be on in both the spotlights and the headlight unit.

Check that the correct bulb is fiited to have both dip and main in the unit either taht or it's been wired differently.

You have to carry out a mod to make the H4 high beam work.

It depends largely on how well you know the tester.

Doubt that will be a problem ,the H4 is the same wattage as the H1 it replaces. The improvemrnt is in the light unit itself.

All of the MOT testers I've spoken to say as far as they're concerned nothing has really changed.

So if your MOT tester passed the car in the past with HIDs they will do so in the future as in their opinion there is nothing new in the regs to fail them against.

Thanks for the replies, the conversion work was done by a specialist but not a TVR specialist.

The kit was supplied by a well known TVR supplier but I guess that either the bulb's supplied don't do main and dip or perhaps a relay is missing somewhere.

I will get Dan Taylor to check it out later on this month and post some pictures of the respray and headlights when the rain stops p*ssing down !

As I recall this (and it was 4 years ago when I dfid mine)... The supply to the dip beam stays on and the high beam spots come on when swithched (in the normal set up)....
But when 7" units are fitted, the relay switches the dip beam in the pods to heigh beam... and the supply that works the relays (1 per light) also feed the spots direct...
I'm sure thats how it worked.....
You could as Sportmotive I'm sure they will have a wireing drawing.. if not, I'll dig mine out when I get back home later in the week...
