Hi,
First post on TVR since defecting from Lotus so lots to learn.
Have just acquired a 500 HC with a sports exhaust which sounds amazing ( a blend of Nascar racer and off-shore power boat) but it's just too loud for the quiet area where I live and is tiring on long trips. The question is should I add a couple of silencers to the present set up or change it completely? Would like to know if anyone has done this and if there's interest in a swap for a standard system.
Thanks
Giles

firstly you need to find out if the car is still running on the cats, main and precats, if so then you may have a straight through system, or at some point the silencer will have been opened up and had the perforated pipes replaced with straight through ones.

have you any service history, receipts to check through to see if this work may have been done?

If you think its too loud you're either too old or should think about an Aston!

What type of setup is your quad pipe system FFG? Does is still have a middle box?

Cherry bombs.
From ACT. With larger dia exits pipes and 2" longer to minimise the charateristic pre cat film on the back end.

Hi Giles - pics??

Where in Bristol are you - I'm nr. Thornbury and have just removed my standard silencer box completely if you want to see what its like...... my current systemn is a bit too loud so I wouldn't mind swapping if you have cherry bombs or similar (I can highly recommend Infinity exhausts in Codrington).

There are 5 Griffs in Bristol who regularly join the TVRCC for the monthly run if you fancy?....

Paul.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to get the car up on a lift to have a proper look and take some photos.Have found someone with a standard system for a possible swap but I'm a bit sceptical about how straightforward it would be.
Good to have a local contact Paul. I'm in Clifton. When is the next meet? I assume its at the Willy Wicket.

I replaced my entire system with ACT sports Manifolds and cherry bomb as my neighbours are deaf anyway wink so I have a complete standard system plus manifolds Y piece etc to sell that came off my 96 500 HC if you're interested?

Meet at Willy Wicket on 3rd Sunday - be good to have another Griff join us - what year, colour etc?

As has been said - check if you have any cats (prev. owner easiest) and what type/size of box you have.

Paul.

Finally got to see underneath properly at Infinity Exhausts (good tip Paul)and it turns out to be a standard system but with an empty silencer hence the racket. They can re-pack it and repair a couple of small leaks for sub £100 which is a result.
Hope to be along to the meet on 19th (without it sounding like a tractor on steroids).
