Not the usual solenoid related one.
On occasions (usually timed for maximum annoyance) my Griff refuses to start.

The scenario is usually a hot start after 10 minutes or so of being parked. A cold start always seems to work, even at sub zero temperatures, and a hot start always works provided it's within a minute or so of stopping.

The solenoid engages, but the engine cranks very slowly. The battery voltage droops to around 10.9v during this time. It doesn't seem to be the usual hot start problem of the solenoid not engaging.

I've put on a new battery and a new starter to eliminate these, and both work fine.

Anyone else had this? I'm out of ideas at the moment.

Thanks.

Mine would do that. A new earth from batt neg to the engine sorted it, short as possible and of course heavy gauge .

Very, very occasionally my Griff does something similar. Probably occured 3 times in the last year. Always seems to be in a petrol station and on the second turn of the key everything is fine again. Never been able to reproduce to diagnose more closely. I have DB's hot start kit fitted.

I agree with David, it sounds very much like an earth problem somewhere. Check and if necessary change the main earth lead. The integrity of connection is critical especially with the high currents drawn on turning the engine over. Pete

Mine used to do this too.
It also managed to melt the wire from the ignition too. In my case it turned out to be the dash earth in front of the gear lever. The body mounting bolt had partitially stripped the thread in the chassis so wouldnt tighten properly...swapped it the the mounting bolt on the other side and i've not had a problem since (cost me 4 starter motors (including a bloody expensive Nascar one [well twice, they wouldnt replace it a second time] and an ignition before cause was found).
