Will you do me a favour Bubblehead and when you've found the correct sump post up what it is from.
I have a leaking sump gasket I want to replace and because I have 2 LandRover places locally it will be much easier if I can tell them what to search for.
Cheers.
Got a sump from a friend who was breaking his 1988 Range Rover 3.9, compared the two and it was identical, HTH. The sump gasket is the same for the 3.5,3.9 and 4.2 engines.I have a leaking sump gasket I want to replace and because I have 2 LandRover places locally it will be much easier if I can tell them what to search for.
Cheers.

Hi Ian, when i needed a sump gasket I just ordered on for an old 3.5 and it was perfect I have a leaking sump gasket I want to replace and because I have 2 LandRover places locally it will be much easier if I can tell them what to search for.
Cheers.
the fact your car is somewhere in the middle it should be the same (mines Serp) i just presumed they had not changed and was right, it was NOS Payen and good quality too Thanks guys. I've a landrover dealer and indie close to where I live so once I've finished replacing the garden fence and can concentrate on things in the garage again I'll pull the sump off and change the gasket.
The trouble is unless you know the LR codes these days they can't really help so its useful to know its a commonly used part so they should have one on the shelf for me to check before buying.

I dont know if TVR ever modified them however.
Aren't the 5.0 sumps adjusted with a hammer to clear the longer stroke crankshaft? As far as I can tell from extensive research trying to source a spare sump for my S all TVRs use a 3.5/3.9 rangerover sump (ERR4633) whether a sump fits the engine is down to the timing covers but I think late tvr engines use the intermediate cover used on rangerovers for about 5 minutes which takes the earlier sump but uses a serpentine belt configuration (the only one I've ever looked at does anyway). 2wd sumps from the sd1 probably don't fit as (I think, certainly looked like it'd be extremely close) they'd hit the antiroll bar on an S and presumably on a griff/chim too though I've never looked too hard at one. The rangerover sump is deeper than most of the others that would fit so is more resistant to surge exposing the pickup and is made of thicker metal so more forgiving of being scraped along the ground.

zombeh - yes the 5.0 litre sumps and persuaded into a different shape to clear the longer piston reach
Its actually the big end caps & bolts, which might be needed if you fit upgraded rods even to the smaller engines.I hear Richard (sideways) is a bit upset about his shiny powder coated sump getting cracked as the sump had to be 'persuaded' for clearance. Bit of an anavoidable chicken & egg situation TBH
still a lot better than grinding metal later..Gassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
