buying a Griffith

Having recently come back from Le Mans in my boring BMW 330, I was captivated by the various sports cars and have decided to take the 'proverbial plunge' (much to my wife's annoyance). Anyway, I'm keen to buy a TVR and I particularly like the Griffith (because I'm told that they're pretty reliable when compared to some other other TVR's). My question is this: I've got about £25,000 to play with - what advice would people give about buying a half decent Griffith? Any 'inside information'? I sure ain't a mechanic and don't want to be poncing around under the bonnet.

Anyone who's out there - your advice is welcome.

Get along to the regional TVRCC meeting for a fountain of ownership knowledge. Also advertised in 'Sprint' you will find one or two specialists who will source/inspect a Griffith for you (fee).

I'd consider buying the best Griff 500 you can with £20,000 and spend the rest on a cheap run about.

Thanks Raw Sewage. I wasn't planning on getting rid of the BMW - I was going to buy a Griff for the weekends (I've also got a MPV for the wife so the TVR would be an 'occasional' vehicle). Could I buy a decent one for 20k do you think?

Ah I see. I think anything £20K and above is going to be a very nice car as long as the usual checks out. If you're not mechanically minded then I'd enlist the help of someone that is and who knows the cars.

We bought a cracking 1996 Griffith 500 via James Agger last year for 20k, 3 previous owners, 11996 genuine miles. We'll be at the Growl, don't forget to bring yours along if you get one in time. So, yes you should get a very nice one for 20k. You'll know the one when you see it.
