Hi.
I am trying to make my mind up on how to tidy up my rocker covers as the original purple is starting to flake, and they are looking a bit tatty. The options I believe are strip/polish (looks like a nightmare job) powder coat or re spray paint, if i go for the powder coat/paint option I would like to keep to the original colour, also am a bit worried as to how robust this would be on ali, and is this colour available. Any advice or recommendations would be gladly recieved.
Many thanks
Kev

Hi Kev,

That looks like a very nice Griff you have as your PH profile pic. thumbup

With regards to your rocker covers powder coating is definitely the way forward, I would personally not recommend striping and spray paint.

Mine where striped and powder coated by Maldon Shot Blasting:

I went of blue to match the ACT Silcone hoses:

Just be aware though it is a very slippery slope as as once you powder coat or polish one item in the engine bay it makes the surrounding parts look dull and in need of the same treatment, before you know it would will be in the middle of a very costly exercise.... like me wink

If I were doing it all over again I would probably go for black hoses and rockers.

Thanks for the info. I think I am sliding down the slippery slope headfirst at the moment. I only started out with the intention of doing a service, now I have 10x more work to do than I originally thought!Oh well it will be worth it when the sun shines. I think you are right and powder coating is the way to go. I wipped off one cover and had a go at stripping the paint and polishing it up, What a PITA think it might take the rest of the year if not life to achieve a decent finish. Can you give me an idea as to what sort of cost is involved with the coating?

I paid £20 for both, blasted and coated.

Thanks Threefish, Ive had a quote at £30 each with the ridges on the top diamond cut back to the ali. The big question is which colour to go for. I think black is in the lead at the moment.

Hi Kev, black is the colour to go for. My Pre-cat covers are black (they are the early type with the TVR logo cast in) with the alloy ribs exposed, they look great when cleaned up (WD40 does wonders). They even look great with the blue silicon pipes I am currently fitting. All the best, Pete
