Draining the diff.

This is the first time I've posted a question so am just hoping some of you experts out there can give me some advice. Jacked up the car today ('97 Griff 500) ready to do an oil change. Gearbox and engine no probs., but when it came to the diff. (BTR) there's no drain plug! Does this mean that the oil has to be sucked out of the level plug hole, or does it mean that it should never ever be drained but just topped up? If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

I’d use the siphon method to drain in. I did mine recently but it’s a GKN diff and it has a drain plug on the base. As the oil is fairly thick I’d be inclined to leave it draining over night too. I got about 1.6 Litres out of the GKN diff so I bet you could expect to get similar out of yours.

i changed my diff oil last year its a BTR unit , when i looked at it i could not see the drain plug the dealer pointed it out to me it looks like one of the cover bolts on the rear of the diff its on the bottom right ,when you look its slightly differernt to the rest of the cover bolts ,hope yours is the same good luck Steve.

Steve & Dave, thanks for the advice. One of the bolts at the bottom is slightly different to the others as it is the only one that has a washer beneath it. Will have another go at the weekend. Cheers.
