Many thanks to those who replied to my thread regarding the non-priming of the fuel pump. I was planning to look at the problem myself but with less than 24 hours before we were due to leave for the Lake District I thought I better leave it to the professionals. After a lot of begging my local garage agreed to pick the car up and look at it the same day.

My local mechanic was able to diagnose and fix it the same day - turned out to be the connections on the fuel pump which I know a number of people did suggest to check. Very good news as the trip would not be quite as fun in the daily banger.

Great pics of what I think is the most beautiful place in the world (may be a little bias though, it's home)

Wow I am very jealous that is your home....I love the lakes and the driving in the Griff was great fun. I am struggling even more now to understand why you sold your stunning Griff. wink

Glad the trip was OK - I don't see the piccies though - all I get is what looks like a no entry sign? Are they still there or is it an issue with my browser.. (I'm using Firefox but just tried it with Explorer and that didn't have any piccies either - strangely the first one of the car going on the transporter is there on both browsers).

Same problem here too. For some reason the links to the pictures had broken.... all fixed now though.

Lovel set of images. I was up there earlier in the year but sadly not in the Griffith (girlfriend and dog to transport). Really want to take the Griff up there sometime.

Hi

Can you let me know where you were based and where you went (roughly) as we went up there last year and have to say did not enjoy driving the Griff, roads were to busy and too mnay narrow roads with stone walls on the edge so very intimidating and unforgiving... almost wrote off going back there in the Griff.

Though I have got more confident driving it now which helps...

Thanks

Alex

^^ good post.
Looks like a genuine, honest post which is a rare thing hereabouts.
I've been intimidated by similar roads before.

nice one mat, but looking at the 6th picture down you need to get your other half sorted, she appears to have something stuck on he nose????

I know you have your priorities right getting the griff sorted first, but the poor girl must be in some miscomfort.

Hi Alex,

We stayed at the Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge which is at the South of Lake Windermere.
http://swanhotel.com/

I understand where you are coming from with regards to some of the roads in the Lakes being narrow with unforgiving stone walls. The A591 that runs up the East side of Lake Windermere and links Newby Bridge, Bowness and Ambleside is a busy road and was very narrow in places. The road running up the West side Lake Windermere was narrower but much less busy which I preferred. I took it very easy around these roads and normally adopted the approach of pulling in an letting any oncoming traffic pass me.

The A592 which you see in the pics as the Kirkstone Mountain Pass is again very narrow. Again you cannot drive quickly down this road but you can burble slowly up there and the huge torque of the RV8 makes very easy work of the 1 in 4 inclines.
http://www.drivingroads.co.uk/kirkstone-pass-lake-...

The bigger A roads you can most certainly get your foot down and open up the Griff but I actually had more fun burbling around the local roads and taking in the stunning scenery. The exhaust note does sound epic when combined with the stone walls and lot of tourists stop in the street an point when you go through villages.

I would be inclined to give it another go Alex especially if you can avoid peak times like July and August. I know you said you are more confident with the car now so I am not sure if when you last went up there when the car was relatively new to you? It took me about 3 months to get used to mine I found it very intimidating to drive at first as it is very different to a modern car. I know I wouldn't have enjoyed it if I took mine up there shortly after I bought it.

I recognise many of the places in the (super!!) pictures - after all its about an hour from home - Kirkstone in the winter is also familiar as we went up there in the S once with the roof down in late Jan - well muffled up though and it was brilliant.
Jim
PS A previous post asks for info re a trip to the Lakes - why not contact the South Cumbria TVRCC RO Brian Crewes (if you are a member but he may help even if you are not) and ask for some advice re routes - I'm sure he'll know plenty as he does arrange TCRCC run outs every now and then in the area.
