So my Griff has finally failed an MOT for the first time in almost 20 years. frown Emissions and headlights. Being a busy person these days, it may be a while until I'm back out there, but I'll have to realign them.

I had to adjust one of the headlights but it was only an advisory. Emissions? - they didn't even check when I took the pre cat in this time.

Apparently I have no beam pattern. Could be that I have HID's but I've had them for 6 years now, and never failed. I suspect the light units have slipped.

Hi Wildfire, I had an advisory on beam pattern on the O/S. I thinks it is because the lens is misted or is dirty on the inside, I am going to try and clean it out over the Summer. As far as emissions go my pre-cat (4.3 - 1992) sailed through. Do look at your air filter, plugs etc. I had overhauled all the ignition and induction some time before the MOT and ensured she had had a good burn beforehand. All the best, Pete

If you have hiss in standard lights, that will be a MOT fail due to new rules this year.

Bcensored! Guess I will be putting H1's back in for the test!

What rule is this?

I dont think that is the actual case, as I understand - you can have HID converted lights as long as the beam pattern is correct (obviously), the confusion might be that under the most recent MOT rules - if the car has or or been converted with HID's + auto tilt adjustment & washers jets these must work or face a MOT fail ?

Alls seems a complete PITA! 6 years and never had any problems, all to be stopped by some jobsworth at the VOSA.

H1s for the test and the HID's back in for the rest of the year.

search the various threads : HiDs are NOT an automatic fail. The problems (and confusion) arise when washers and self-levelling suspension are involved. TVRs had neither, therefore no problem (as long asinstalled and levelled correctly).

I've read the MOT stuff thoroughly.

I had a fail last on the headlamps on my 97 Chim, I Quote, "Headlamps has a product on the light source so that the light output is severely reduced"

Upon stripping them both out and changing for new (a REAL pitta of a job!) I found that a family of spiders complete with nest had decided to make their home in the lamps! not a nice discovery!

so, £400 lighter of pocket later, I'm at least 'lighter' in seeing where I'm going!

Ian.

Hmmm..I'll wait and see what Austec come up with, it's my own fault for leaving it so long, usually I do it myself but have been busy lately and am currently away with work.

Spiders! Were they not toasted from the heat?

In my experience they fail because they have a st/poor beam pattern (not just TVR) the tester is not so lenient since the VOSA update though i.e less forgiving & doing his job wink headlight/s may dazzle other road users nerd

Hmmm, MOT...I wonder when mine runs/ran out?

I hope this isn't going to be a nasty surprise when I get home and check. It won't be the first time this has happened to me. I think four months over has been my worst one...not good.

Tim.
