WMS Brake Upgrade on 15" Estorils
Discussion
Lot of talk about these brakes on the "other" forum but they don't seem to have been mentioned here. I've just fitted the WMS 283mm 4-Pot brake upgrade to my Griff and I'm very pleased with it indeed. I was feeling a bit unworthy in the presence of my Cerbera friends with their fancy AP Racing calipers. I wanted to upgrade to 4-pots but I didn't want to change the original 15" Estorils, budget and retaining the brake balance were also considerations. I'd looked at several options but they were either well over £1k or didn't offer a Griff ready kit. I'm not much of a mechanic so I was really after something that came with all the parts ready to bolt straight on. Then I came across the WMS kit on the Chimaera forum, a few people had fitted tehm to cars with 15" Imolas but nobody seemed to have tried them with Estorils. Keri, of WMS, was able to supply templates via email so that I coudl check them against the wheels and they looked like they'd fit fine.
I went for the 283mm kit (there is also 300mm) on the, aformentioned, grounds that I didn't want to risk over-braking the front. The 'kit' comprises WMS 4-pot calipers, disks, braided hoses, EBC Red stuff pads, new bolts and the all-important adaptor brackets. The WMS kit is less half the price of Tarox/AP Racing kits and almost half the price of the Wilwood kit (when you consider the WMS kit includes pads & hoses), I opted to splash out a little more to have the grooved disks. The disks are standard Ford Cossie units, this accounts for some of the saving, it also means it won't break the bank when they need replacing.
I've not changed a caliper for 20 years, but the kit was a doddle to fit, it's designed specifically for the Griffith/Chimaera and hence everything fits as it should. If I'd had all the correct tools to hand (inc 1/4" spanner!) it would have only been a couple of hours work. When I did get stuck Keri was happy to answer all my stupid questions.
I Managed to get out for a 1st decent run on a dry road with these last night, I'm very pleased with them. I'm still being pretty gentle on them until they've a few miles under the belt but they certainly feel much better than the originals. If you're looking to upgrade your front brakes but want to stick with the 15" Estorils, I'd certainly recomend these. Will get some photos up soon but in the meantime there are some on the Chimaera forum.

These are fitted to my 15 inch gottis uses the 283mm discs, with wms caliper, mounting bracket and hoses, and pads
clearance between the caliper and wheel, at closest point, is maybe 8 mm.
balance/feel etc is spot on with the larger rear caliper set up from later cars, which i've fitted to mine.
apologies for the dirt!
