Headlight upgrade

I have had my Grif for a few months and the headlights are pants compared to my Eurobox. Is it possible to upgrade the headlights, on both dipped and main beam so they are comparable to the cars performance!

The main beam is marginal and i think that this is partly due to there location below the nose. It is possible to swap the headlight units to one with a combined main beam as used in the Chim, and Tamora. I have read in the 'bible' that the seperate lights were used because of concerns of overheating due to the cowl, but this dosn't seem to be a problem on the later Chim.

Is the best way just to use upgraded bulbs, and if so, which are the prefered.

YES their is a problem with the lights beeing to dim however I was told not to use higher wattage bulbs because over a period of time this may melt the pod, my solution was to swap the 5" diameter lights for some cibies with dim/dip setup wired into the light loom, so when your normal head lights are on the botom ones are also on and on main beam, and there will be now problem with up grading the bulbs to say 100 watt, I shall carry out this conversion over the winter

I agree with RichB (first time for everything) except go for the Osram bulbs as they got a better review. I've done both and the lights are pretty good now. The car is used every day, as it should be.
No offence Tiny I don't like the front or rear conversions. See you at the weekend.

Thanks for the advice, looks like the first thing to try is the bulb upgrade. I will also have a look at the wiring mod, but auto-electrics is not speciality of mine, and from past experience of my dads Vixen wiring, TVR electrics are best left alone if they are working.

Tiny, also not sure i like the look of the light modifications. I bought my Grif because it looks perfect, pure sculpture, and you wouldn't paint a pair of Ray-bans on the Mona Lisa would you?

I used to run 100W bulbs (with a direct high current power supply) but I found the 60W Vision+ bulbs are actually brighter.

I've seen bulbs advertised by VWP that are claimed to have a different spectrum designed to go through plastic better, has anyone tried these or is it just a marketting gimic?

I have just purchased the Philips Vision Plus 55W bulbs that I intend to fit this weekend. I was advised that the Philips bulbs had less failures over the Osram equivalent, although its marginal.

Which ever bulb you do purchase go for the ones with UV filters. This apparently stops any plastic overheating problems. I'm not saying there would be a problem with the light pods, but its better to be safe than sorrow.
