I have used the Prestolite starter that's available from Brookwells, it seemed excellent for a while but recently started to play up mad

It could be I just ended up with a bad one, & to be honest when it cranked it did so fantastically well.

In fact I was impressed with the way it cranked so I bought what was displayed as another Prestilite on EBay for £75.90.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-1-3...

But what turned up was made by a company I had never heard of, GlobalPower.

http://www.globalpowerltd.com/

I was bit suspicious but I figured I would give it a try, surprisingly it actually fitted better and sounds even stronger than the Prestolite one.

It turns out the company behind the EBay ad is Peter Scott Land Rover in Wymondham Norfolk who are reputable guys I know from when I lived up that way.

If you want to call them direct phone David or Neil in the parts department on 01953 601440.

Mind you I can't really comment on reliability of the GlobalPower one yet as it's only been on the car for six weeks.

Early signs are very encouraging though.

Try British Starters in the US - Nippodenso gear reduction TR8 starter, adjustable for TVR, Land Rover, SD1, etc. very light, huge grunt.

I've had a Powerlite RAC 318 on my car, worst starter of the lot.

Sounded nasty, cost a fortune and cranked slower than the Prestolite one.

After a few weeks it went on EBay, luckily I managed to sell it for a profit wink

There are lots of companies adapting the common Denso gear reduction starter and reselling at a huge mark up.

All I can say is the adaptation by Powerlite did to create their RAC 318 did not suit my 4.0 litre serpentine Rover V8.
