Hi guys,

Hoping you can help me with a quick question. Got back from a run in my Grif yesterday and noticed some oil (splutterings only really) had escaped the dipstick and was burning on the exhaust manifold. My first thought was of a breather problem. Passenger rocker cover breather and filter is new and still ok. However, noticed that the drivers side rocker cover breather hose (which runs to the throttle) was kinked over. It seems that the bonnet comes down and kinks the hose over.

Do you think this may be my problem?

Any nifty solutions to prevent the hose kinking?

Thanks for any comments!

If the rocker cover breather was kinked and not allowing air flow then yes it could have caused some back pressure to build up which could try and escape via the dipstick hence oil spluttering.

Chris, thanks for the comment on this. I will definitely check this out then.

Regarding the hose that comes from the breather on the drivers side rocker cover: my hose is a straight hose that curves up and then over to the throttle and has become kinked by the bonnet when closing it.

Does anyone know, is there a special hose (with a 90 deg bend in it) or something? I can't figure out to prevent this from happening.

Cheers, Phil

The hose has a 90deg elbow and goes From the flame trap on the o/s rocker cover across the front of the plenum chamber where it splits via a T connector and then to the inlet/plenum.
At least this is how it is for the 500 serp engine.
You can get new silicone pipes from ACT that have the elbow and are a lot more crush resistant than the old breather pipe.
