jacking the rear

Hi Virgil, I jack the rear of my Griff up using a trolley jack on either side using the main chassis rails (running along each side of the diff), I then place axle stands on each rail. Don't forget to use wood or high density rubber on the jack/stands to avoid damage. I may be stating the obvious so apologise up front, do not attempt to work under the car, in particular dropping the box, if only held up by a jack! All the best, PeteCheers,

I roll mine onto 2 pieces of wood about 1.5 inches thick and 6 inches wide and then its easier to jack. Always jack it on the main rail next to the exhaust. Bit fiddly and you'll need some wood but its pretty easy once its a bit higher - you can see what you're doing.

I roll the car, rear wheels, onto some bits of wood to make it slightly higher. I can then just about squeeze my trolley jack under. I have a piece of wood like a U shape if you will which runs under the exhaust and then up onto the main chassis rails.
There is not much room for jacking at the rear what with it being low and the exhaust in the way. But yes it can be done.

Cheers guys. Was hoping to jack from the back, not the side as its tight against my driveway side fence...so jacking the diff might be more the idea if possible...
Will see if I can knock up some mini wooden ramps as suggested to assist too.
Any idea of the weight of a T5? When I've done this before I've dropped it onto my chest and slid it out that way...but that was a much smaller box ;-)

Looked at those stands but they said only suitable for up to 185 tyres...
Didn't quite get the box out tonight before it got dark...exhaust y piece out, rad out, cross member out, and 3 gearbox to bell housing bolts cracked, but need to drop the exhaust and for that I have to raise the back...think it might be next weekend at this rate as away this one :-(

Not cheap but I am glad I had them...thought they were going to be too high to be able to use the jack under them but they were more or less perfect height

My pieces are just offcuts, nothing special. You only need to raise it about an inch or so to gain much better access.I've got some wind up ramps but as you've said the tyres are too wide for them really, and they bleeding heavy (probably 1960's build).

I've got some perfect off cuts of mahogany somewhere, 2" thick and about 10" square was going to put a little mdf ramp in front...but I can't find them as the worshop is now covered in bits of TVR!I've got some wind up ramps but as you've said the tyres are too wide for them really, and they bleeding heavy (probably 1960's build).
