rear number plate lights
Discussion
I found these on ebay after looking for an alternative to the backlit option.I didn't fancy paying £30 for a translucent plate which has the MOT man scratching his head. They were easy to fit, and don't upset the styling. They are chrome finish number plate bolts with tiny led lights that are directed onto the number. They protrude about 15mm and wire into existing wiring easily. They were £6.99 delivered!

£25.99 for a rear plate from 'Fancy Plates' dot com, just ordered one as mine was looking very knackered. Would've been two quid cheaper without 'honeycomb reflective'.
Would be interested to see the lights without them being on, as you can't really see how they look on the car - the light dazzle obscures the visual.

Hi Guys chnaged my plates over the winter with a set from Fancy Plates, selected the backlit TVR rear plate when ordering. I chatted with them first before commiting myself and they said that they had sourced the material especially for TVR's. They are nice quality plates. Just as a guide, previously my Griff had a standard rear plate (previous owner) which had little if any light transmission. New plate is many times better. What I also did is apply some reflective aluminium tape to the back of the plate recess and fit brighter LED type festoon bulbs - all these mods unseen from the outside! Can now see the number plate lettering really well. When having my MOT recently the guy was going to ignore that fact that the car did not have evidence of external lights until I told him the were backlit. All the best, PeteWould be interested to see the lights without them being on, as you can't really see how they look on the car - the light dazzle obscures the visual.

Sorry but if its not broke don't fix it! MOT man just needs an education and the GRiff is all about clean lines hence the hidden plate lights!
What this man says..... quick word n it'll be through..... I've been one place who asked me about it, only to find out to see if I knew, his idea of a joke .... good, but I had a brake light, and a very very noisey exhaust.....
brake light changed before boss came along, and ohh never heard tvr before so don't know what they sound like
Ohh forgot to say, when I turned up he jumped in car and said he didn't work there any more and speed up the road...... heart attack moment

A photo of them in daylight.
I wouldn't of fitted them if I thought it spoiled the look (i live miles away from Essex!).I have spent ages getting the car right, and have kept it as standard as practically possible. They only stick out 15mm and look like chrome bolt heads, better than the yellow plastic cap to fall off to reveal a rusty screw head. I tried led bulbs in the original holders. They improved things but not great. Maybe the new material is a lot better, but fancied giving these a try.
Bear in mind if you change the plate in future, it's another back lit one to buy.
Easily put back to standard if wanted

It's a handy find for those who export and have to go through local regs to get plates. Saw a thread on a Swedish (or Norwegian?) guy who has added crappy looking external lights. I'm sure he would of loved to know abou these, which are a million times better.
Came across a Griff 500 in south of England recently where owner had added external light (lighting from below) as he was concerned that he would fail MOT due to lack of reg. plate illumination.Gassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
