Hi Guys,

I'm in need of help again.

The heater in my car doesn't work and I know this is normal for a pre-cat but it really doesn't work. It blows fine but no control over temperature and little control over direction and I think I've found out why. Having looked at another pre-cat at the weekend I think mine is missing an actuator motor (see pictures below). So does anyone know where I can get a new one and how to plumb it in?

I also have the problem of exhaust fumes entering the cabin (not the boot - that seems fine). Are there usual areas to look for this - the ducting running past the back of the engine looks ok but I haven't removed it and can't reach all of it to check with it in the car.

Thanks to all who will help with this problem and all who have helped in the past. This is easily the friendliest car ownership experience I've ever had.

Cheers,

Simon

PS On another note - does anyone know who Jason is and why his name is on my ECU? He's not a previous owner.

Can anyone help shed any light on this? As usual the search is down and I could use some advice.

Cheers,

Simon

Jason is obviously a close relation to Banksy and fitted the heater box to my car...likes writing on things...

Simon,

You may find this useful:

But it is for a later 500, Your heater water control valve looks rather different you may be able to update to the later version. Believe it is an adapted VW item.

It's probably simpler and cheaper to move to warmer climes than 'fix' a precat heating system.

Judging by the pics below (stolen from a post by Baretti) I have the right control valve in the pipework but I'm missing the servo/motor part. Do they come off another vehicle or does anyone have a part number?

IIRC you can get the motor from RS , also the microswitches, the bracket and such is all Tvr own making.
Maybe call some breakers or specialists for spares, but expect the motor to be broken as they all break teeth off gears.

That would be great if you could. I'd like to keep it original and the GF is not happy about the lack of temperature control. Plus, to be honest, the screen fogging can be downright dangerous when it rains.

if you look at this thread, there is a pic of my precat motor, and a link, which is no longer working, to the replacement. maybe theyve just sold out?

SSPPGG is nearly right with the name of the motor - its Crouzet
Might be worth contacting them
http://www.crouzet.com/english/contact.htm

It could be one of these, but there is no mention of the voltage
http://www.crouzet.com/english/products/micromotor...

As for the micro switches - they are available from Maplin
I have one here and details on the pack are
Part number GW73Q
Bar Code 5 026686 478730

Hope that helps.
I can't get at the heater while the car is on the ramps this way round. But if you need anything else just shout.
And if you find out the motor details please update this thread for future reference.

The heater motor will most likely be 12Vdc, ovoid and with low output speed:
