Glove box latches and locks

Anyone come up with any good ideas?

The latch that is fitted may as well be made of choclate so rather than fit it properly Im gonna go to the DIY shop and fit a different latch. Just wonderd what others have done in the past.

Was also considering a lock for it. Anyone fitted a solenoid lock? What parts did you use?
Im guessing the easiest is to go down the scrapy and get the smallest solenoid boot lock of another car.

Whats wrong with the bits of insulation tape holding it up i saw you had at the Growl on sunday?

Modwise did used to do a locking kit, but not sure that David is doing them anymore.

There's two things you should never attempt to change on a Griff.

The first is the glove box catch and the other is the bonnet stay.

To fix these is to change the essential soul of the car and is completely abhorrent!



Dave Batty fixed my old one - I can't give you any details other than to say his fix really worked well.

Dusty, David Beer's Mod-Wise one is electro-magnetic and is switched by the ignition, don't have it myself as I don't want to spoil the essential fabric of the car but I reckon it sounds the biz. Rich...

The problem I found with mine was that when closed the two parts of the catch were at different angles. I made a spacer thing that corrected this and it's been fine ever since.

Funny enough the green press car at the Growl has my bit of carboard stuffed in the glove box now holding it shut

Yeah, it broke on the way there. Its been threatening to go for a while and appeared to have only one go left in it.
As for the bonnet stay, thats already in the boot. Perhaps the glove box will end up in there soon too!

Apparently the original catch is a loft catch from B&Q. I'd have thought a suitable replacement carefully mounted would do the trick?
As for locking, in keeping with the loft catch, how about a padlock and hasp?

I use the excellent Mod-wise kit now, but before hand I usd the catch but had made a plate around like in teh Bible and screwed the top part to the Glove box surround, stops it gettingpushed through and adds a little strength.
For extra security i had an old door solinoid that went from inside the Glove Box.It had a bolt 2inch bolt attached to the end and went through the edge of the G box and into the Dash board surround. Very simple to do and was wired up to the door lock solinoids so oppereated when ever the car was locked.

I just firmed up the whole lid with an allen key (the 2 screws in the far corners of the cavity).. and removed the crappy catch altogether

No, The lippy holders in the door are good for that, its my poodle. I just cant close the glove box with her in it!

is there supposed to be a catch in the glove box?

I have no evidence of a catch of a catch on mine, though you need a crowbar to open it, and Johny Wilks to kick it shut!

I hav the Mod-Wise kit on mine. This replaces the catch with a solenoid so the glove box catch is electric and it locks when the ignition is off. Well worth it for extra security, and not too complicated to fit.

The solution is simple - a couple of small high powered magnets and two steel plates.
Remove original plastic nonsence and attach plate 1.
Super glue two small magnets (round ?)to plate 1.
Attach plate 2 to the opening lid.
Fixed..!!!
