Bulkhead grill and wiper motors

Anyone know how to remove the grill the wiper's sit on. I'm fairly sure the bulkhead on mine is flexing enough to cause them to mechanically lock.

The plan at the moment is to make a metal plate to fit under the grill to stop them flexing, unless anyone has a better idea

It's a good idea as far as I can see. The grill bit on my car is held on by 2 rivets and the wiper lock nuts.

That's what it looks like on mine too, I just wanted to be sure they haven't bonded it with something so strong it'll never come off cleanly

I'd be interested to see how you get on with this,can you let us know how you get on please? My wheelboxes are worn out so I will be changing them shortly and would be interested in any improvemnts that can be made whilst I'm in there. I must admit I'm not too sure I understand the bulkhead flexing issue you describe though

I think what's happening in my case is the drag from the arms is causing one of the wheel boxes to cant over a little and increase the amount of torque needed from the motor. Mine seem to get stuck at the mid point. I've rebuilt the motor and cleaned the comm etc but they are just too weak.

Could the magnets in the motor have lost power over the years?

Sounds to me like the wheel box teeth maybe worn.
Had this on my chim so following adrian venns idea i pulled out the cable from both wheel boxes very slowly.
Then rotate both wheel box spindles with wiper arms removed through 180 degrees.
Then carefully replace cable into wheel boxes so your cable will now be running in the teeth that have never been used before on the wheel box spindle.
Did this to mine and the wipers are now as good as new.

I've rebuilt it more times than I care to mention.... Mine may be unique (aren't they all) in the bulkhead actually moves if I press on the wheel box

Yours is unique just like mine.
