MIL light.........

Whilst my dashboard was out of the car I decided to carry out the modification to the MIL light as recommended by Mark Adams. Evidently all but the latest cars were incorrectly wired by the factory.



Now, when I turn on the ignition the MIL light briefly flashes (as suggested above). Is this correct? I ask this question because on my X-Trail the MIL light stays on until the engine is started.

which one is the ml lamp???

is it fitted on a pre cat?

The MIL lamp is labeled as such and is next to the handbrake warning lamp. Perhaps pre-cats don't have them?

Just go and generate a fault code by unplugging the AFM and then start the car and see if it comes on after a few seconds. It may not, as it needs to be enabled in the fuel chip apart from being wired correctly, and on most UK (Range Rover) fuel chips it was not enabled. I dont know what TVR did, but the Mark Adams chips have the MIL function enabled. You will need to reset the ECU afterwards.

ah, I was thinking seperate lamp on the dash, not part of the "strip of lights", thanks

Blitzracing, just got back from holiday so wasn't able to reply to your suggestion.

I removed the stepper motor plug and started the engine. The MIL light briefly flashed as before but didn't stay on to show a fault. So, as you thought, the fuel chip presumably isn't enabled.

Shame, because after nine years of ownership I thought that I had finally got every single electrical circuit working simultaneously!

Id try that again with the AFM unplugged- the stepper will only introduce an error if the idle is too high or low, and the ECU cant alter it. It should generate a fault within a few seconds of the AFM being disconnected.

Disconnected the AFM plug but nothing from the MIL light. Anything else I could try?
