Sorry if this has been covered before, tried the search function but couldn't find right answer. The wipers on my griff work on full speed, but on normal speed or intermittent they don't work. Also wipers don't park. When on full speed the motor moves probably over half an inch side to side in its mount. I've had the top off the motor and it looks to be nicely greased, I've cleaned the contacts and I've sprayed wd40 along the arm where it disappears towards the wiper arms. Help please required.

Suggest either relay or wiper park switch. Swap ready is a simple enough test.

Thanks, I'll try the relay first, 'cos when I remove the relay the fast wipe still works as before.

Hi,

Mine started to do the same 3 weeks ago, fast wipers only and not returning to the correct position automatically.

I replaced the Park Switch, no difference, so I have bought a new Wiper Delay Switch for the steering column, did not think it would be a relay, would they work at all it it were a relay!?

As the wipers have now started to work as they should I though I would wait until they went again before swapping out the Wiper Delay Switch.

Regards

Steve

Whenever mine play up like this it has always been the wiper relay coming loose.

Not sure if thats the exact one you need to look at any part numbers on the old unit

Thats the right one. I had a similar problem where the wipers wouldn't park at the bottom of the screen. Only putting the wash wipe on briefly would park them in the right place. A new park switch didn't fix this so could it be the relay?

I had exactly the same problem a month or two ago. It was the connector/park switch which had corroded. It is located under the wiper gearbox next to the left hand bonnet stay, so it gets covered in cr*p especially if driving in the wet.

Dom at TVR Power replaced it while doing some other work, so give him a ring and I'm sure he'll be able to give you a part number and source. 024 7636 6177.

thanks all,

i pulled off the park switch, which at best seems intermittent.

the folk on the ebay site above are just down the road, so i will pop over sand see which of the many types they have is the correct one for my motor.

The original wiper park switch is a Lucas 520160A which was also used on some of the old minis and more recently on some model Land Rovers (not sure which) If you do an ebay search for wiper park switch you will invariably come up with a selection of them. There are various copies but also some original Lucas ones as well that you can often pick up for around £10 del'd. The switch is quite easy to swap; in fact the old one may just have some damp inside it and need removing, cleaning and drying out. Apparently a blast with an air line helps or as an alternative give them a good go with a hair drier - that worked for mine. When it is refitted give it a good blast round it with spray grease of some other sealing sort of stuff to try and stop further water ingress.

(Bit later - just looked on ebay and there are loads of them incl a Lucas one at £10 incl dely - the one you want is the MGB, land Rover Defender, Mini one.)
