Quite impressive if they can supply a map for any engine just from a description of the spec.

[act advert]...This kit is suitable for applications where the trumpet base and plenum have already been been modified...[/act advert]

Modified to what?...oh, and whatever they say, add £600-850 for rolling road session with a certian mapping guru...It will just run pants otherwise, and probably worse than it does now.

Running Pants could indeed be one outcome, Melted pistons could be another.

Perhaps we are just being cynical, may be they have developed a method of remotely making a map without a RR session just from a description of the engine spec.

Been running a 'best guess' Tornado chip for about a year on a precat. A few home-tuning sessions using ECUMate and RoverGuage and it's running sweet, no melted pistons as yet. But this is, however, without the aggro of cats and Lambda sensing of a 500 nor the other induction upgrades mentioned.

from my undertanding they can do a best guess map, based on giving all modifications etc....... ok it's not perfect but can't see it being any different then having a load of standard chips all the same and putting them in standard engines seeing as none of those are bespoke mapped to the engines they are being paired with.

< This wink the RV8 seldom needs leaning off at the top end so even if it just adds fuel when out of closed it wont do any harm and anything below the Lambda's can trim wink

Don't think that a best guess is going to be that bad- think about it, below 3400 rpm, the ECU can alter the mixture by +/- 20% which gives you a fair leeway and in open loop as the ECU measures the actual airflow- not some guestimate against the TPS or MAP- any variances in engine airflow will be picked up by the ECU, and fuel supplied accordingly. I dont believe for one moment you would end up with melted pistons, any mapping issues are likely to be at low speed when the ECU and fueling is much more affected by the engine being off cam, so the physical airflow measurement can poor as the engine does not breath that cleanly at low RPM.

If you change the AFM- the voltage response response changes for any given airflow- but the nice bit with Bosch AFM is it does not "flat line" like the Lucas unit does on the 5 ltr engine. On the stock 5ltr fuel map the final bit of fueling has to be done against the TPS, as the Lucas AFM has pretty much reached reached 5 volt maximum before maximum airflow is reached. The Bosch unit however can still give meaningful airflow readings at full airflow- which ultimately means a more accurate fueling, once the map is altered to take this in account.

If your doing major mods and you need the Tornado chip ,buy one second hand ,contact Mark Adams and for around 25 quid he will send you a best guess map.

He has mapped hundreds of cars ,he keeps the maps after doing a bespoke mapping session then sends you that map ..

There`s one forsale ,it was mine before he bought it ..

Don`t know what spec your engine is put he paid alot of money to have it rolling road mapped by Mark.

I would contact ChimpofDarkness ,he has one forsale..cheers

yes

Actually it's more of a package, and I may just hang on to it.

  • Chip 1: 5.0 litre Tornado Chip
  • Chip 2: 4.0HC Tornado Chip (fine tuned on the rollers by Mark Adams himself)
  • Tornado scrambler board to allow switching from chip 1 & 2
  • Chip 3: 4.0HC TVR Power Chip
  • Plus a proven TVR 14CUX ECU

Why would you want to switch maps from a 4l to a 5l ?

Throw the TVR power chip on the dustbin !

Will you take £150 ?

The Tornado Chip WITH the Bosch meter will work far better out of the box than you think, It's not a best guess map, its a map to run the big meter which doesn't max the voltage like the standard meter. almost self mapping !

If you have melted pistons or even running "pants" then something has failed maybe injectors ?

Not to be confused with chipping a car with standard meter.

Don't take the pish Daz.

It's just to give the new owner options, & all wrapped up in a plug & play TVR ECU that's worth your £150.00 all on it's own.

Whoever takes the package will be getting a gift, with some careful re-selling they could end up with their chosen chip for free.

At £417.00 for a new chip that's a great deal.

From the meter and chip alone I would say 10-15 lb ft and around 10 bhp, smooth intake hoses and trumpets will add another 8-10. have you had a power run before ? always wise to establish that engine healthy first. Feel free to call for advise without pressure to buy.
